Moghrey Mie Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 https://www.gov.im/about-the-government/departments/infrastructure/waste-management/ I see they have appointed a new head of waste management at DOI. I wonder whether we will now get a decent Waste Strategy and improved waste reduction and recycling. There was even some talk of the Circular Economy but I haven't seen any information about that. english zloty Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 Looks like her plan might just be to eat all the waste 1 1 1 Quote
Kopek Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 One has to wonder if this could have been handled by the current staff??? Of course, she could be an internal promotion? 1 Quote

She has worked for government for several years in a similar role but in a different department. 1 Quote

Previously Environment Protection Officer, so, on the face of it, an internal promotion. https://www.linkedin.com/in/rita-greenwood-7aa71a75/?originalSubdomain=im Quote
Kopek Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 Oh! must be a sister to Pippa Greenwood, an expert on Gardeners Question Time on Radio 4, so she must know how to compost? 1 Quote
Non-Believer Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 Who was the previous Head of Waste management and have they retired/departed? Or is this position newly created to head up a "new strategy"? 1 Quote

Maugholdmafia Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 The DOI have had big problems recently with coal tar in roads, look at the balthane industrial estate roundabout for example. Hopefully having somebody in place now will help with instances of this occuring, of which it is shocking there was no plan or any agreements for storing coal tar until recently. Quote

I think it would have been better to appoint somebody who has worked elsewhere and seen things done in a different way. Edited July 8, 2024 by Moghrey Mie 1 Quote

I know that but just seem needless bureaucracy having multiple Departments involved, one for setting legislation/policy and then another for 'doing'. They should all be in DEFA including animal waste etc Quote
Moghrey Mie Posted July 9, 2024 Author Posted July 9, 2024 There should have been Annual Statements of Need since 2019. I can see nothing on DOI website. And also there no sign of the promised Technical Reports during that time. Quote
