doc.fixit Posted July 27 Posted July 27 Just read that Govt. has proposals to extend Jurby runway and ancilery buildings. What's to do I wonder. Residents meeting coming up with various big wigs attending. 1 Quote
Hairy Poppins Posted July 27 Posted July 27 It's nothing more than keeping the land available as a strategic reserve in case it's ever needed. Nothing more than that. That's logical as there's not really many other places on island you could ever build a functional airfield if you needed to. Sorry to disappoint. 1 2 Quote

Two-lane Posted July 27 Posted July 27 (edited) I am, as ever, confused. Where can I find a copy of the Draft Area Plan for the North and West? Edited - here: https://nwinquiry.gov.im/document-library/public-inquiry-papers/ Edited July 27 by Two-lane Quote

It would be interesting to hear any justifications for airport development at Jurby, given a) the current financial situation and b) the millions upon millions that have already been thrown at Reynoldsway. 3 Quote

I don't think we'll see it in our lifetimes. Maybe sell off the current airport land for housing? Not sure there's many ways it would be funded. All they've done with this plan is draw some lines on a map for future strategic planning. I don't think that's a bad thing. 1 Quote

Sounds a reasonable supposition to me. 1 Quote

ian rush Posted July 28 Posted July 28 The public inquiry maps show areas where development is to be constrained on account of the potential need to use the site in the future. It is not a current proposal to build a new airport there. if it hadn’t been constrained and there was further development (houses, industrial) and the island did need a new airport then there’d be no end of bitching on here. Ronaldsway is small, constrained and mistier. 1 Quote
TheTeapot Posted July 28 Posted July 28 If they wanted to keep Jurby as an option for the future maybe they shouldn't have built the prison on the airfield. 2 1 Quote

That's why they've marked the runway centreline offset from the current runway centreline. Takes care of the problem. Quote

Though plenty of opportunities for extraordinary rendition to scouseland...to save us a few quid. We could also save the UK money by not buying them parachutes when we drop them back. Win-Win. 1 Quote
