The book launch had to be called off.

No, it didn’t - she could have laughed it off and carried on, or ignored it.   She chose to leave the stage.

Freedom of speech was effectively lost.

No, it wasn’t - as far as I’m aware, her book is still being published?   Anyway, the unfurling of a poster didn’t limit her freedom of speech - she could have addressed the matter and carried on - but she exercised her freedom of choice and walked off stage.

Isn’t that kind of dangerous not allowing people to present their own version of events?

No one is stopping her, she chose to walk off like a scolded child rather than presenting her own (factually inaccurate) version of events.

Normally I would agree with you. But the event apparently was called off for “ security reasons” Thats just what it’s like today.

So it probably wasn’t her call even if she wanted to resume.

That is such a blatant excuse.  Unless the lettuce has been sending death threats.

Well I guess you can either challenge her on her version of events using logic and reasoning or organise a drop down picture of a lettuce.

That's up there with 'health and safety' and 'GDPR' in the list of mainstream excuses for not doing something. Or non-specified 'legal reasons'.  That's another.

Do you really believe that?  If someone had walked up to the stage and thrown milkshake or cheese at her then I could understand it.  Instead a banner was lowered above the stage and that was it.  Truss had a hissy fit and walked off stage.  A similar event occurred to Farage when a banner of Putin was lowered but his event was not called off for security reasons.

But if that action was as trivial and lightweight as you imply, why didn’t she laugh it off for the minor joke that it was, castigate it for its puerile nature - or ignore it completely and carry on with the heavy intellectual discussion?   Why strop and walk?

Well I wasn’t in charge of security for  either event. Those that were made their own decisions for whatever reasons. If you or I were in charge we may have played it differently.

Yes that’s what I would have done in her shoes.
