Just lob it in the EFW plant and be done with it. Not necessarily disagreeing with you, just saying that there is a use for newspaper on-Island and a composting facility that it could recycle it without cost to the taxpayer. It doesn't need to be transported off-Island or a shit load of money for recycling. Anyway, newspaper that gets shoved through our letterbox gets dealt with in the same manner..... it goes for composting. Why waste perfectly good material when you don't have to. Plastics are the issue. That should definitely go in the EFW. 1 Quote

Do they still claim it’s delivered to every house? I haven’t seen one for years. 1 Quote

Unless it can actually be done here on Island, I can only assume that the extra carbons released from picking it up, shipping it and then transporting it to a recycling plant wouldn't net off against the perceived environmental benefits. Unfortunately there doesn't really seem to be much available data to review to consider the options. But hey, people can make money off the Green Scheme, irrespective of whether there is evidence that it is Greener. It might even be ultimately more polluting than just burning or landfilling it. The best option is really just trying to reduce the amount of waste you create. It's a shame beer doesn't come in cartons. I'm with you on the beer idea. Quote

The boat sails anyway and once in the UK, is it any different to the journeys taken by UK based waste disposal authorities to the recycling facilities? 2 Quote

" One might also consider what happens to paper that was sent for recycling. If it was used to create something useful, that useful thing will no longer be created. And, as it is nearly Friday night:- They are saving £35,000 per year - how much are they loosing by not charging for car parking? 1 Quote

I did, nobody listened. All got sucked in by the green nonsense and used to drive their cars to the grandstand with a few newspapers in the boot to throw in a big plastic bin that came here on a boat, thinking that shipping the paper back to the UK by van, ferry and lorry to go into a hugely power hungry recycling plant with diesel vehicles everywhere was saving the world. madness 1 Quote

My reply was in response to the green impact of transportation, but as you say the saving is comparatively miniscule and much less than the loss of car parking income, as you say. I am sure there will be enough paper for recycling in the UK that the lack of our contribution will not impact on useful things Quote

Take a look just like the thousands of tons of waste 'we' ship out to India every year but that's OK, 'we're' saving our bit of the planet while other parts can die. Quote
