thommo2010 Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Been following this since it happened yesterday, the CEO of one of the biggest healthcare companies shot to death. Apparently the company turns down around 32% of claims made. Seems not a lot of people to upset about this and some even celebrating it. Always amazed me the healthcare in the USA and if you can't afford it you don't get it CEO of UnitedHealthcare Brian Thompson Is Shot Outside Midtown Hotel - The New York Times 1 Quote

Sheldon Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Be funny if Thompson's life insurance company refused to pay out. 1 Quote

In the US as you've noted if you can't pay (or your insurer won't) then you won't be getting treatment. Not even Manx Care is that callous. He got paid $10M last year. Anyone that gets paid that and is the CEO of an insurer that doesn't pay out 1/3 of its medical claims will surely have blood on their hands. Edited December 6, 2024 by The Phantom 2 Quote

Most major US healthcare providers have, today, removed all references to all of their leadership roles. It’s a weird one and it seems that the whole of the US, except Thomson’s family are quite acceptant of his death. Strange to us, but to those at the mercy of all US Medicare polices to refuse treatments in order to increase profits it seems to be seen as a case of ‘divine’ retribution. The bullets hand written with deny, defend and depose apparently refers to a book written in 2010 that was highly critical of the industry. It certainly looks like the assassin was someone who directly or indirectly was affected by a bad decision and now it seems that millions have their own stories of bad decisions to tell. That the NYPD have only offered $10k speaks volumes Interestingly, Blue Cross medical insurance who have recently refused to pay for full anaesthesia during procedures have today reversed that decision. People power, and right now, these people are mad as hell Edited December 6, 2024 by Auntie Depressant To add image 1 Quote

My direct experience, conversations with my mates...but mostly the Internet of course 😀 If you're feeling relatively ok...you don't tend to chase things up. I would suggest that most of us these days will think twice about going to A&E...unless its pretty serious...knowing that there's a likely 8 hour wait. And most of us don't even bother trying to get an appointment with a doctor anymore...unless it's very serious. So...experience. 1 1 Quote

Chinahand Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 PZ Myers is a left wing American biologist who I've been reading with interest for many many years. He posted this today. Thought provoking, but equally no excuse for murder. But American medical policies are incomprehensible to me. https://freethoughtblogs.com/pharyngula/2024/12/06/you-can-always-trust-terry-pratchett-for-the-appropriate-quote/ You can always trust Terry Pratchett for the appropriate quote He’s better than the Bible. “Do you understand what I’m saying?” shouted Moist. “You can’t just go around killing people!” “Why Not? You do.” The golem lowered his arm. “What?” snapped Moist. “I do not! Who told you that?” “I worked it out. You have killed 2.338 people,” said the golem calmly. “I have never laid a finger on anyone in my life, Mr Pump. I may be–– all the things you know I am, but I am not a killer! I have never so much as drawn a sword!” “No, you have not. But you have stolen, embezzled, defrauded and swindled without discrimination, Mr Lipvig. You have ruined businesses and destroyed jobs. When banks fail, it is seldom bankers who starve. Your actions have taken money from those who had little enough to begin with. In myriad small ways you have hastened the deaths of many. You do not know them. You did not see them bleed. But you snatched bread from their mouths and tore clothes from their backs. For sport, Mr Lipvig. For sport. For the joy of the game.” Terry Pratchett, Going Postal 1 Quote
Anyone Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Friend of mine is a retired American doctor. He told me in America if you are sick and poor you will die as you won’t get medical intervention or if you do it’s rationed and hard to get ( there are some charity medical facilities but nowhere near enough). Old and poor , the same. The UK does not need or want the American model of health care. It’s horrendous. Fixing the NHS is the only solution but how in gods name you do that is anyone’s guess. But even in its current perilous state its streets ahead on the USA model. Quote
Shake me up Judy Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 I've not been following this one but what's the motive here ? Is there any suggestion it may be related to vaccine damage ? Quote
