More regulation; good-o. Just what is required at the moment, when regulations are choking the life out of business and creating more and more jobs in Govt. On the plus side, it will allow for some added revenue for fines imposed. Quote
Roger Mexico Posted January 9 Posted January 9 More jobs for the boys and girls by the looks of it. Expert regulation from off-Island must be replaced by well-paid local busybodies who can impose their own ideas and make sure that people they don't like are cracked down on while failings by the right people are ignored. 2 1 Quote

Bizarre take, I've always found the R&I team responsive and professional when I've reported issues in the past. Having an on-island & accountable inspections unit is better (more responsive, more flexibility on ad-hoc inspections) provided they are competent and credible. This should also be more cost effective than bringing in consultants for routine work. 1 Quote

The key to safe practice is effective inspection and scrutiny. It has to be independent and not in any way under the thumb of the DHSC. That is what has gone wrong in my view with the Health Ombudsman Body. The published reports from them have apparently been heavily edited I understand by the DHSC. The whole process of effective complaint management in my view has been an expensive waste of time, effort and certainly a lot of (tax payers) money. A fine example that Regulations do not always mean what it says on the tin. 1 Quote
Boo Gay'n Posted Friday at 10:33 AM Posted Friday at 10:33 AM The Island is horribly resistant to having external bodies inspect anything. What we might say for the Manx care portfolio of services is similar in education as the other classic example. Partly, this is because of Manx pride - but largely because the senior civil servants and politicians know that many of of our services are piss-poor and would not want that to be aired in public. Remember that rolling series of reports about health services a few years back? It was a start, although not done by a regulator as such, but was discontinued, forgotten about and presumably any recommendations were ignored. The Registration and Inspections Team is a ragbag collection of poorly performing people who washed up there because there was no where else to go. Their work is questionable, and they are known to take dislikes to certain private sector businesses and harass them. 1 Quote
Moghrey Mie Posted Friday at 10:46 AM Author Posted Friday at 10:46 AM I wonder whether it will include the people who call themselves 'therapists' and 'counsellors' in the field of mental health? 1 Quote
lfc84 Posted Friday at 07:26 PM Posted Friday at 07:26 PM (edited) They can't be arsed inspecting takeaways and food outlets - claiming it's too much work. Why would anyone expect them to inspect something that's important Edited Friday at 07:27 PM by lfc84 1 Quote
