Stavros Posted August 6, 2004 Posted August 6, 2004 Simple question, what three things would you take if you were offered the chance to go back in time? You are now being transported 100 years to 1904 what three items and why would you take them. I would take: A Flashlight The mosty updated almanac A fully automatic machine gun with two hundred thousand rounds of ammunition! The flashlight to see and sell The Almanac to bet on anything and everything! The gun to shoot anything that didn't like my almanac! Stav.
Uni Posted August 6, 2004 Posted August 6, 2004 Is there a Bill out there to go with Ted above. Stav - have an excellent adventure...
Ripsaw Posted August 6, 2004 Posted August 6, 2004 I'd take * My Credit Card - imagine what I could buy for £100 * My DVD of Titanic to prove to the builders that it *was* sinkable (and did) * My mobile phone so that I can stay in touch with friends.

YetAnotherManxForum Posted August 7, 2004 Posted August 7, 2004 I'd take * My Credit Card - imagine what I could buy for £100 * My DVD of Titanic to prove to the builders that it *was* sinkable (and did) * My mobile phone so that I can stay in touch with friends. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The 3 most utterly useless things you could take, how would you use your credit card, it'd be a useless bit of placky in 1904, what would you show your DVD on, and who the hell else would have a mobile in 1904 and what infrastructure would it use. Me: 1) £1 million of old money - then move to Switzerland (If you didn't sign up in 1914-1918 you went to jail or got shot) 2) 1001 best inventions book of the 20th century 3) Book of sporting results of the 20th century
Declan Posted August 7, 2004 Posted August 7, 2004 Humm Bad Day YAMF? Anyway I played around with this idea, not entirely successfully, on a short story I wrote some time ago... Through the Wormhole
Dave the Cardboard Box Posted August 7, 2004 Posted August 7, 2004 I would take an efficient and silenced pistol, loaded with one round - and take out Gavrilo Princep. Then he couldn't shoot the Archduke Ferdinand, then the Great War would not start, then the World War 2 would not start, atomic bombs would not be invented, etc, and the Cold War, Russian Revolution, Korea, Viet Nam, Iraq, and everything else would not have happened.... However, as a back up, just in case my theory was wrong - I would take a few more bullets - sort out the youthful Hitler and Stalin, and to make sure everything really worked out, take out just one great grandfather each of Tony Blair and George Bush. Oh, and of course, a grandfather of M.H. Thatcher.... (goes without saying) Oh, a couple of more bullets - the great grandfather of who ever invented Big Brother, and a total wipeout of turn of the century Portuguese with doubtful sexuality. But probably, with just that one first bullet, I would not exist, and neither would this machine in front of me....
Stavros Posted August 8, 2004 Author Posted August 8, 2004 Declan, I only went in for a quick look but I was compelled to read the whole story. That's very good and it's got a clever twist to it. Stav.
Tee Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 1) A change of clothes would look mighty stupid otherwise 2) a copy of all the greatest songs ever wrote to be copyrighted upon arrival 3) The address of one of the leading portrait artists of that time ( would be cool to have yourself as a work of art in the tate )
Rog Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 A book entitled ‘antibiotics and anaesthetics for the amateur’ A book ‘Aseptic operating and medical practice and procedures’ A microscope of up to 1200 mag. With that lot I could not only make a dammed good living but I could also ensure that I had at least SOME protection from the hazards of day to day life for myself and others.
the mo beats experience Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 i'd take a time machine to take me straight back to the early 90's, along with the first 5 years worth of lottery results, wouldn't need anything else! selfish twot aint i!!!!

My maternal grandfather joined up in 1914 and fought through to 1918 - then while in the Army just after the War, he met my grandmother because he was in the Army. They were from towns 50 miles apart and would not have met otherwise. Without the War he would not have joined up, met my grandmother - I would not exist. He would instead have gone on to invent a cure for cancer, led Spurs to a string of League Championships in the 20's, thereby eclipsing Arsenal, who would now be playing in the Ryman League.... BUT.... then I would not have existed to go back to kill Princeps and stop the First World War.... SO ...... Over to you Declan
