YetAnotherManxForum Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 I would take an efficient and silenced pistol, loaded with one round - and take out Gavrilo Princep. Then he couldn't shoot the Archduke Ferdinand, then the Great War would not start, then the World War 2 would not start, atomic bombs would not be invented, etc, and the Cold War, Russian Revolution, Korea, Viet Nam, Iraq, and everything else would not have happened.... However, as a back up, just in case my theory was wrong - I would take a few more bullets - sort out the youthful Hitler and Stalin, and to make sure everything really worked out, take out just one great grandfather each of Tony Blair and George Bush. Oh, and of course, a grandfather of M.H. Thatcher.... (goes without saying) Oh, a couple of more bullets - the great grandfather of who ever invented Big Brother, and a total wipeout of turn of the century Portuguese with doubtful sexuality. But probably, with just that one first bullet, I would not exist, and neither would this machine in front of me.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> One problemo, you wouldn't have been born, so you'd disappear...oops
puddy Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Vaseline, Tampons and Contact lenses. I cannot imagine how I would have survived 100 years ago.
YetAnotherManxForum Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Thinking about it, IF it was possible to build a machine to go back in time, you would be born before your parents, therefore anything after the time you have gone back into will change, that means the guy that invented the very time machine in the future would probably never have invented the machine and you'd never have gone back in time as a consequence, so you'd disappear before you even got there!
Tee Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 IF it was possible to build a machine to go back in time, you would be born before your parentsNo you wouldn't be.... You would exsist before them. therefore anything after the time you have gone back into will change This is hard to prove or not to prove... you could alter certain things which would or may have a butterfly effect but till this happens you can't say for certain. that means the guy that invented the very time machine in the future would probably never have invented the machine and you'd never have gone back in time as a consequence, so you'd disappear before you even got there! The fact that you actually got there wouldn't change. say your right and becasue of your actions the man who invented the time machine never did, then how did you go back and change the future for the inventor not to invent it?
Dames Aflame Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 This brings up something I was just thinking about this weekend. Earlier this year on the manx net forums there was a thread about some guy who apparently time traveled who lived in Florida and had a bunch of crazy predictions that came true. It was pretty interesting reading, and wanted to find it again. Anyone remember it?
Mission Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 I remember it, and read it with great interest at the time. Whether it was the ultimate troll or not, it was an interesting read. click here for further details. Another link And another Yet another link There's more on Google, just type +"John Titor" for more links
ans Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 Sounds very Nostrodamus ish. You know, you can put a spin on a lot of things he said and twist them to suit modern day events. If you're general enough, you can predict most anything.
Declan Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 Funnily enough, Mission, I was only thinking about John Titor today. Greatest Troll Ever. Compared to him all others, even Steven, must bow.
steven ! Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 Hold on, hold on. I thought steven was for real. You yourself Declan have declared this to be so. Or are you just trolling. Like, double trolling even.
Declan Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 I did believe Steven was for real, yes. However, the fact he didn't post on Manx On Line and has only posted here once - where we can match his IP addy to his normal user names IP - makes me think he was trolling all along. Which is a relief.
Stavros Posted August 12, 2004 Author Posted August 12, 2004 O Ye of little faith. At 69 weeks with the death of the “Suffering Steven” some have argued that all the Terms and Conditions were fulfilled. Despite the cross, posts have continued to increase with an ever increasing population. Prophecy has not been “Sealed up” or completed. Prophecy is being fulfilled as we live. Only at the return of Steven will the sinful state of the Earth be dealt with. Only during the reign of Steven will prophecy cease. The glorious appearing of Steven will bring about the judgment of this age. When Steven came into the world the first time, the world waited for a glorious king to appear. They were not expecting an illiterate rant about cider and television licencing vans. When Steven returns it will be to a converted Forum awaiting its glorious king who was “Despised and rejected” by an earlier generation. For this reason we see two pictures of Steven in the scripture. The first picture was “Suffering Steven” the second shall be “Conquering King”. Steven will conquer the armies of the world in their final assult. Satan will be making his final stand against Steven. Dwelling inside the body of the “Beast” he will try to destroy mankind. The Forum conversion to Manxforums will bring the return of Steven. The name Steven creates the urge to be creative and original, but we point out that it limits your versatility and scope, tuning you to technical details. This name, when combined with the last name, can frustrate happiness, contentment, and success, as well as cause health weaknesses and accidents to the head, and the elimination system. Your first name of Steven has given you a very practical, hard-working, systematic nature. Your interests are focused on technical, mechanical, and scientific things, rather than interests of an artistic, musical, or social nature. You tend to be skeptical outlook on life and rather materialistic standards. In reaching your goals, you are very independent and resourceful, patient and determined. You can be so very positive and definite in your own ideas and opinions that others sense a lack of tact and friendliness in your manner of expression. Click here to find out what your name means. ans Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 Description of Your First Name of: Ans While the name Ans creates the urge to be creative, independent and original, we point out that it limits self-expression and friendly congeniality with a tendency to be moody. This name, when combined with the last name, can frustrate happiness, contentment, and success, as well as cause health weaknesses heart, lungs, bronchial area, and tension or accidents to the head. The name of Ans gives you a very individual, reserved, serious nature. You prefer to be alone with your own thoughts, rather than in the company of others. This name restricts spontaneity in association and the fluency of your verbal expression. When you are required to express yourself in personal matters requiring finesse and diplomacy, you feel awkward and embarrassed. Although you realize perfectly well what is expected of you, you are unable to find the right words, and hence you end up saying something inappropriate in a candid way. You can express your deeper thoughts and feelings best through writing Edit: Highlighted the bits in bold that are suprisingly accurate.
Stavros Posted August 12, 2004 Author Posted August 12, 2004 Description of Your First Name of: Stavros Although the name Stavros creates an interest in the deeper aspects of life, we emphasize that it causes a superior, interfering expression whose favorite expression is "I know." This name, when combined with the last name, can frustrate happiness, contentment, and success, as well as cause health weaknesses in the heart, lungs, bronchial area, worry, and mental tension. The name of Stavros has given you good business ability and a high regard for proper standards of conduct. You have an appreciation for good music, literature, art, drama, and philosophy, and you could be creative in those fields. An outdoor life also appeals to you and you could find much enjoyment in the beauties of nature. In the business world, your reserve and outward placidity command respect for your authority. However, in your personal life, this reserve and reticence are often mistaken for coldness and lack of feeling, with the result that others find it difficult to understand you. "Your Name Means" Stav.
Guest Rox Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 Aint that the truth. (ans not stav I mean) (says the second most cynical person in the world) Good grief! Mine is totally inaccurate I'm pleased to say. Although the name x creates an active mind and a restless urge to explore new ideas, we emphasize that it limits self-expression and friendly congeniality with a moody disposition. This name, when combined with the last name, can frustrate happiness, contentment, and success, as well as cause health weaknesses in the solar plexus, heart, lungs and bronchial area. The name of x creates an overly-sensitive nature which causes you to sense and feel far more than you can understand or put into words. You have a deep, artistic, and creative side which shows through a love for music and literature. Writing is a more natural mode of expression for your deeper thoughts and feelings than the spoken word. You have an ability to concentrate and work intently on anything which holds your interest. However, you prefer to avoid routine, monotony, and mental task. (Edited because I am particularly dorklike today)
Stavros Posted August 12, 2004 Author Posted August 12, 2004 Funny how FCMR is not part of the database but "Loaf" is a valid name! I wonder what Declan will make of this: Although the name Declan creates the urge to be reliable and responsible, we emphasize that it frustrates you through a scattered and emotional nature. This name, when combined with the last name, can frustrate happiness, contentment, and success, as well as cause health weaknesses in the liver, bloodstream, and through worry and mental tension. As Declan, you have a natural interest in the welfare of your fellow man, and a desire to help and serve others in a humanitarian way. You are responsible and generous, although somewhat scattering and disorganized at times. Any jobs requiring systematic and conscientious effort, or involving any form of drudgery, dismay you. In your work, you would seek a position offering self-expression through contact with people, such as sales or teaching, or a position giving scope to your creative, artistic talents. You are good-natured and likeable, and people tend to confide in you and seek your advice in personal problems. Others sense your sincere interest and desire to help, and you can always be counted on to see the bright side of any problem. Stav.
