Observer Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 These ops are often carried out on women No xxxx Sherlock! I've missed you steven. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ROFLMAO!
thebees Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 Perhaps the doctors who are performing the Hysterectomies havent been trained on how to do the keyhole surgery yet? They dont 'just do' hysterectomies. I dont think its a scandal. If I ever get menorrhagia I know what to ask for now though...thanks Steven - It is the real you isnt it? Helloooooooo :-)
Stavros Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 Unecerssary Hysterectomies! It's a bit like those unnecessary lobotomies really isn't it! Stav.
momo65 Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 . If I ever get menorrhagia I know what to ask for now though... Erm no -or at least not from this. Undoubtedly endometrial ablation is less invasive than hysterectomy. However, it too has been overtaken by something more simple than surgery. The latest treatment is a Mirena intra-uterine contraceptive device - which is progesterone coated and is inserted in the same way as any other coil. ie No surgery, no anaesthetic etc. It appears to be as effective as hysterectomy in relieving the symptoms.
purrrrrrrrrrry Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 Don't get too excited thebees - it all depends on whether your doc is up to date with things and how referral processes work (in other words how you end up seeing the doc responsible for doing these things) The NHS is trying to address such discrepancies via the likes of Evidence Based Practice, which looks at outcomes rather than expectations (which given the often hype of the pharmaceutical industry, can only be a good thing) With mennorhagia a lot of women never even see a doctor as they think they either should just put up with it, or will be told to just put up with it. The real skill here is getting the information out there...as well as within the 'system'.
