Mission Posted June 24, 2004 Posted June 24, 2004 Well, to be fair, as soon as it went to penalties, it was rather a foregone conclusion. The ultimate insult has to be the Portugese keeper taking (and scoring) the winning penalty though. Oh Well, two years to wait until we lose once again at the World Cup! I think we should give up sport, we're just sh!t at everything. Let's just have a drinking, fighting and shagging world cup, we'd win that everytime surely!
simon Posted June 24, 2004 Posted June 24, 2004 Okay we lost. And En-ger- land weren't great. And the ref made a wrong decision at 90 minutes. But wasn't that fun to watch. Which is all that really matters. How tense was that? Great TV!
The Old Git Posted June 24, 2004 Posted June 24, 2004 How tense was that? Great TV! Very, my heart rate has just settled down now
zephyr Posted June 24, 2004 Posted June 24, 2004 Does this mean that all the english flags that are on cars will disappear tomorrow?
Observer Posted June 24, 2004 Posted June 24, 2004 Referee?? That was a bum call on that goal. I just knew when Beckham walked up that it wasn't going to go in. Oh well.
Ean Posted June 24, 2004 Author Posted June 24, 2004 Yeah it was good TV...would have been even better TV if England had won!
R_ReaVeR Posted June 24, 2004 Posted June 24, 2004 I always thought it was difficult for 11 players to beat 12
lectro Posted June 24, 2004 Posted June 24, 2004 From a neutrals point of view I think the better team on the night won. The disallowed goal was harsh but these days you can't even brush against the keeper or it's a free kick. I'm sure if it had been James who was fouled the decision would be the same. Penalties is a hard way to lose a game and it could have gone either way. I don't know why the ref didn't move to the other goal after the first set of penalties. However besides Beckhams miss, 3 or 4 of the English penalties were straight down the middle. Makes you wonder if they practised at all. England on the night and for the tournament just didn't look good. Beckham, Owen, Scholes, Gerrard have all been very poor - particulary tonight. Cole and Campbell were the best on show for England. Figo, Costhina and Deco for Portugal were very poor. All the talk has been about Rooney but Ronaldo has been the player of the tournament for me. His work-rate tonight was phenomenal. His touch and running and attitude have been first class and he has been getting better every game. Anyway - that's a neutral's view.
Observer Posted June 24, 2004 Posted June 24, 2004 Blah, blah, blah... but Ronaldo has been the player of the tournament for me. His work-rate tonight was phenomenal. His touch and running and attitude have been first class and he has been getting better every game. He just oozes confidence doesn't he?

He was very cool taking the penalty - I was sure he was going to blast it over.
Ean Posted June 24, 2004 Author Posted June 24, 2004 In truth from what i had seen of Ronaldo in this tournament doesn't match up to the Utd Ronaldo. He seemed far too ready to dive and he didn't seem to have that much of a part of the team, few brilliant touches but apart from that he seemd out of the game. Dunno whether that was because he was making the runs and the ball wasn't sent or not though. And where was the Referee from?....And who did England beat 3-0 in the group stages?
Mission Posted June 24, 2004 Posted June 24, 2004 Oh well, at least incomptence doesn't just affect football referee's. Anyone see Wimbledon tonight?
Ean Posted June 24, 2004 Author Posted June 24, 2004 Yeah just saw the news, bit odd that how no-one noticed.
Observer Posted June 24, 2004 Posted June 24, 2004 This may cheer you all up a bit... Woops hold on - mucked up the URL!
