  1. In my neck of the woods Hermes are very very good. Most people in our vilage tip delivery drivers a few bob because we know that the pay rate is low in all cases.

With covid and isolation usually a couple of quid in an envelope works fine. We keep a few "loaded envelopes" ready in the draw of the hall table.

Do you guys on the island do something similar for people making deliveries to your homes?

    Just curious.

TBH, colonisation probably "developed" most sub-saharan countries rather than slavery per se (and it is still "developing" in the guise of international aid). So, not only is the cartoon demonstrative of bigotry (if it wasn't for slavery you would still be running round with spears) it is inaccurate.

All foreign aid should have been ended decades ago.

No offence but all that says is that you're a bigoted imbecile.

Many African Americans are descended from immigrants from Africa who were never slaves. Also, many nations in Africa have highly advanced economies with developed and industrialised cities which make the Isle of Man and UK's cities look primitive in comparison.

Ever been to any Sub-Saharan African country and worked up country?  Nigeria?  Congo? Angola?

    I have.

In any case this funny and harmless little cartoon addresses ex slaves, not negroes who have emigrated to the West.

This is one of those well-worn tropes that justifies a lack of diversity in many areas.  No doubt the judiciary, senior armed forces roles, senior police roles and senior roles in the arts (to name a few) are also fiercely competitive?

Yes,but there's different abilities required in different jobs.  Races are not equal in strengths and weaknesses. In this country it's not a person's race that determines how high up the tree he or she can climb, it's ability combined with inate characteristics and these are determined by both nature and nurture.

One black driver - Hamilton - so the FB spin, while worthy, misses the glaring fact that virtually everyone involved in F1 is white

It's a fiercely competitive sport so what matters is ability.

You can bet money some attention seeking retard will find a way.

It certainly looks that way.  A legitimate protest about the behaviour of some American police was rapidly picked up and exploited mostly by ANTIFA. Marxist supporters then jumped on the battlebus and our history now is under attack further assisted by "Useful Idiots" (Google the phrase?).

Born on the island, taken to Staffordshire in England when I was two, all above took place in England, came home in 1994.

As an aside, I watched and experienced parts of England become a foreign land but I also gained many black relatives as siblings got married although I already had a Jamaican Uncle and two black skinned cousins I love dearly.

Sorry if some of you consider it racist to post such comments but if you do I would question your definition of racist.

What on earth could anyone consider as being in ANY way racist in that?

  8. It is in such places as were shown in Leicester that illegals get their money other than running drugs and Leicester is far from being the only town and city that this is happening. Slum employment with pay in cash is widespread in "the colonies" that have sprung up in several parts of the UK also provide employment to add to the HUGE Benefits those "legally" in the UK receive, in many cases where multiple claims are being made, and worse yet paid, to the black workforce.

Unfortunately it will in some form or another. I have been surprised at the level of racism in some young people I know. They have black and Asian friends but still have a strange outlook.

One, a 13 year old and not unintelligent by any means and very well educated, was discussing with me the overpopulation of the planet and ways to cut pollution and greenhouse gasses, suggested that African families could be given £200 for each newborn baby, because that's a lot of money to them. The babies are trained by NASA to survive in a hostile climate and sent to Mars to set up a colony there and terraform the place. Then more of the races which have the highest birth rates could colonise the place!

This kid grew up with an African family living next door and played with their kids regularly, his best friend is Asian, he goes to school with kids of many races . He, to all intents and purposes would never consider himself a racist but for some reason, there's an undercurrent there and it's not from his parents either?

I sometimes wonder if racism simply goes back to a basic instinct to keep to your own 'tribe? '

It certainly should and that's how I interpret it.  Not better, not worse, just different.

And to me racism is failing to give equal treatment, support, and opportunity irrespective of "tribe".

    racism
    /ˈreɪsɪz(ə)m/

    noun
    noun: racism
    1. prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.
      "a programme to combat racism"
      • the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.
        "theories of racism"

    That's not racist - that's painfully obvious!

I suggest you read a book on evolution.  We are all part of only one race. The human race. We can all interbreed with each other. Genetic variation in a species is essential. You are describing variation.

    Read a better book.

No, I'm asking you to explain what you understand the evolutionary differences between a Caucasian and a Negro to be.

OK.  Let's keep it very simple for your benefit. Because the environments that the negro evolved in was so different from the environment that the Caucasian evolved in different abilities became success factors.  It's Darwinism on the hoof.

I can't think of a better example of the very definition of racism than that.

But "Albert" it's an axiomatic! It couldn't BE more self evident!

    You're crackers.

No one is asking you to feel guilty, all you're being asked to do is acknowledge that some people have a harder time than you or I due to their skin colour, not be a racist, and not to be a dick.

3 really simple things that are absolutely no hardship whatsoever.

    Only one snowflake here pal.

Stating the simple truth that all races are NOT equal is not being racist.

Lots of discrimination that goes on worldwide has everything to do with skin colour.

Probably, but justified discrimination is based on different evolutionary paths taken by different races.

Who doesn't know about the UK's contribution to shipping slaves from Africa to the Americas?

I'm not going to bother trying to explain the rest.

What about the active opposition to the transporting of slaves that had been imprisoned by Arab traders in Africa to the Americas.  Started by the British and delivered.  Read up on William Wilberforce, he and the abolition of slavery used to be taught even in some primary schools before the Snowflake English hating teachers arrived and concentrated on creating a feeling of totally unjustified guilt in life who have taken that nonsense into today.

Meant to address this point as well.

I do not suffer from "white guilt".  I had nothing to do with the slave trade nor the oppression of any other races so I have nothing to feel guilty about.  What I do have is empathy for fellow human beings who suffer injustice or hatred simply because of the colour of their skin.  I don't feel bad about the life I lead as I try my best to treat everyone equally with respect.  I would hope that when I see injustice or hate that I challenge it and call it out for what it is.

It's got NOTHING to do with skin colour.

There has been racism, sexism, and ableism and other minority isms within both the population at large and the Manx Police for years.

And as Derek points out it’s improving.

ive had direct experience professionally. I’ve contributed to police training. I’ve had to ask for the custody block to be made wheelchair accessible ( the pedestrian route didn’t have dropped kerbs ).

I used to do a little game in training. What year for the first in Manx advocates and IOM constabulary

    Catholic

    Female

    Black

    Jewish

    Gay

    Muslim

They're all within my lifetime, and one, at least hasn’t happened yet in both categories, and another hasn’t happened in one category.

There is frequent racism and homophobia ( casual and targeted ) on here. It doesn’t affect me as such. But it’s deeply depressing

    It's human nature.
