The thing any sensible person should be concerned about is THE CALL

    *ring ring*

"Hello, is that TheTeapot? This is the contact tracing team, we've identified you a contact of a known case, you have to stay home for a week and get two tests"

"I'm not ill, have had a jab and need to go to work"

"Here's a direction notice, it's a legal requirement and you can be jailed for ignoring it"

    Sigh.

I suspect that isn't going to happen.

There may be issues in the DESC and issues affecting UCM. I don’t know but you don’t know either - that’s unless your one of the many civil servants?

Your saying it’s bitter lies, can you prove it? I merely stated fact, I said that the former principal didn’t last long, but that’s open to interpretation. I also said that something isn’t right, which again isn’t a llie, it’s my opinion.

You didn't state fact at all.

Firstly, you posted without knowing how long the person has been in the post.  You just launched into some rant that it must be "issues in the department".   That is clearly bullshit on your behalf for two reasons.  The first one is that the person had done five years in the post.   That's by no means a short time frame in that environment.  Secondly, let's just suppose for a moment they had lasted 6 months.  You would have had no idea why.  But your approach was " well there must be an issue in the department".   Which of course, in that scenario, you would have absolutely no idea.   It's the bitterness angle that drives this sort of nonsense and you need picking up for it.;)

I think her words can be interpreted two ways.

If you are ill and your immune system is not working, it doesn't matter how many jabs you have, you can catch covid 19 and there is a good chance you will be very ill.

A normal healthy person will be very well protected by the 2nd Jab and to a much greater degree that 1 jab or no jab.

Therefore widespread positive cases in the community is dangerous to some people regardless of their vaccination status.

Yes but those people are simply at risk of catching pretty much anything and it being a problem.

Her tweet looks poorly worded at best and scaremongering at worst.

There seems to be whole load of people shitting themselves about tomorrow.

I think it must have been early May as I only got my call 28th April and I'm o55.  But yes it must be something like that. You could register but you were not prioritised unless you were called @thommo2010

Over 55 yeat old were called way before end of April.

That's strange. I cant see how you could possibly be having your second jab so soon. I'd keep it quiet if I were you😁

It isn't strange at all.  I know people who are of a similar age and they are booked in within the next three weeks.

Guess it is down to choice, she can do what she wants and I would say she is normal, just does not want to be told how she can spend her money. If you still have cash lots of normal folk will still use it.

It's getting to the point in certain places that she will getting told.  As an example, i went to a place that was essentially a beer garden type place surrounded by various businesses selling ale and food.  The entire place was cashless.  Card only.

It's a generational thing too.  Old people obviously still have an affinity to cash. Young people don't.  Most of them are now paying by watch, phone or card.  The contact less limit has now been raised too.  So more and more purchases are getting quicker to make with a simple tap.

We are still a long way from being a cashless society but we are slowly (or perhaps not so slowly) heading that way.  I wonder how long?

    Why would I be seething?

You seem to have an obsession with making comments on a forum, especially after I have said anything. Perhaps you have ‘issues’? Or perhaps you like what I have to say, and get a kick out of it?

I said the Principal of University College Mann hadn’t been in the post long. Maybe she has been in the post 5 years, I wouldn’t say it’s a long time, but hey according to the resident troll or multiple poster, I’m not allowed an opinion, unless it conforms to theirs.

If as you say it’s all down to parents moving to other parts of the island and yet won’t send their offspring to other schools - St Ninians, QE2 or Ramsey Grammer, then others are at fault for not getting a grip on what’s going on. This problem presumably hasn’t sprung up overnight, or perhaps as usual civil servants whilst aware of the issues, have buried their heads in the sand.

You've been repeatedly picked up for spouting angry BS because you repeatedly spout angry BS.

Your opening point was above there, said that the Principal moving on "suggests issues in the department " when quite clearly you haven't the first idea what you are talking about.  You've created a new topic which is just plain lies.

You've then further launched into some fantasy about Ballakermeen.

It's got nothing to do with "not being allowed an opinion ".   It's about pulling you when what you are posting isn't opinion.  It's just bitter lies.

    You're seething:thumbsup:

I like to save a few quid for our trips away as my wife doesn't like using her cards, therefore if she wishes to buy lunch/dinner cash is the only option, and there is no banks in Peel hence why I try and pick up some sterling along the way. I sincerely hope this answer's your concerns.

She should use her cards like any normal person.

How sustainable is it to have businesses opening and closing at the drop of a hat if they're 'contact traced'

It isn't sustainable.   And with less people being tested from Monday we are going to have more covid floating round the place.

I could.  But I wouldn't be able to get the desired finish on the paintwork that someone who really knows what they are doing could.

Jo Pretty seems to have been there for about five years, so it's not unusual for someone to move after that sort of period at that stage in their career.  They may also have been personal issues with separation from friends and family, made a lot worse because of Covid.  But I was surprised not to see anything about her going.

Recruitment is of course very difficult at the moment, especially when you would expect the person to be appointed from off-Island and I wonder if Allinson is stalling so as to not be stuck with 'one of the boys'.

    2112 will be seething.

  14. Does anyone have an recommendations for a decent car valeting service?  Particularly around the quality of the exterior finish?  I know plenty of people have set themselves up as valeting soecialist but they're not that great.

A mantra once used by the former Prime Minister.

Education on the island seems to be heading like the Manx Health Service, in need of serious attention.

The Nations Propaganda Mouthpiece had a piece about how the University College Mann (Isle of Man College) Principal resigned (wasn’t in the post for long) and how Government are having problems trying to recruit a new Principal. Something isn’t right for a high profile appointment to go, after a short period, and suggests issues within the department. It is also a costly expense trying to recruit especially if the applicant comes from off island, re relocation expenses.

The second issue is Ballakermeen High School have a planning application for portacabins to be used for teaching. With a supposed population explosion, and a high school roll how long can the school persist with poor conditions not conducive to teaching?

I'm sorry to say this is yet more bile and horse shit.

You have literally no idea why the principal at the college left.  None.  "Suggests issues in the department ".  Arfff.

Perhaps they got to the island and couldn't settle? Maybe they got here and had a marital split? Maybe their kids have struggled? Maybe their parents are in the uk and have been diagnosed with terminal cancer and they want to back near them? You have literally ZERO idea.

As for Balla - the main numbers problem at Balla isn't about a population issue.  It's about families moving out of the catchment area but insisting their kids go to Balla.  I work with several people who fall into exactly this category.   Driving in from somewhere like Peel or Ballasalla where they live but continue to bring their kids to Balla.

Possibly because all the storm water runs of the fields and dumps it on Strang road, this is already overloading the existing drainage system which at the time installed was probably capable, the storm drains run through peoples property on the lower side to reach the river thus causing untold problems for the residents of Strang road. If you are in doubt go up Strang road after a few days of heavy rain and see if I am correct.

You could also add that the access is appalling too.  Strang Road obviously speaks for itself.    Mount Rule Road is as bad (there's also flooding problems at Strang crossroads very regularly) and the other potential access would be the TT course.   Er........no.

Just take your proof of vaccination card. Or after 28/6 go onto the website and order the secure bar code certificate. If you can’t do that you can ring 119 ( but not from IOM - although there may be a work around via Nobles Switchboard ) but it can take up to 21 days.

You're a bit fucked without technology really.

If you don't have Internet access getting your RR number is going to be very difficult.  As is completing a landing form.

Aside of that, decades of public speaking and being a regular observer and interviewer of politicians should give him a great insight into what has worked and what hasn't.

He comes across to me as someone who isn't going to simply tow the party line and I like a man that speaks his mind.

Finally, the way he handled that hidden agenda BLM nonsense at Manx Radio shows what a decent guy he is. 👊

It’s interesting that he should try and claim the Middle ground. It’s false flagging. May appeal to his target demographic.

Well I'm sure him standing won't excite a certain demographic.

Good news i think.  Certainly more choice is needed in Middle and Stu certainly has something to bring to the table.  I'll be interested to see how he gets on in the election.  It's a positive for Middle in my view.

Ten minutes ago I had a look around the Elm trees and have a few observations. The application which is now announced on the radio as a road safety issue is horse shit ! The entrance to the old garden centre in the bottom of the road on a bend is far more difficult than the locus of this. It seems blindingly obvious to me that the application has little to do with the house entrance on the left towards Douglas, but everything to do with the entrance on the right ! The reasons behind this are so transparent to anyone with half a brain that you can read a book through them ! Why Perkins hasn't stopped to think what it's all about is beyond me. There is no anecdotal evidence of road traffic issues at the locus so thats a red herring, as I say the application is all about the entrance on the right and you draw your own conclusions. Planning are clearly very easily led !

Expand.  What do you mean entrance on the right?

I'm interested what contingencies they have in place for the numbers that will be isolating. Jersey has over 1,000 people currently in isolation. That must have an impact on businesses etc.

Isolations should disappear as tests stop.  Covid will just be a part of every day life and most people won't know they have it or will simply have mild symptoms.
