Good morning folks. Another weekend has come around once again. We have a fine day today; however we have a South-westerly force 8 and heavy rain forecast for Sunday. Yesterday I was talking about the village of Derbyhaven so I shall just finish off before I move on. Since writing yesterday’s blog it has been brought to my attention that Derbyhaven has its own Mayor. Yes it seems his name is Dave, he is a scouser and a plumber by trade, and married to Jackie. He drinks in the Sidings and has also been spotted in the Gluepot.

It is said that the village takes its name from the fact that the Derby use to be run there, but that was almost 400 years ago and as far as I know, the petition to make sure it doesn’t happen again is still circulating around the village. As far as I know, Derbyhaven has never had a football team. The village of Colby I’m told used to have two, Colby FC and Colby Level, well that was according to some old guy I once met in the Colby Glen pub. He told me Colby Level had this brilliant centre forward who was a top goal scorer. Unfortunately I can’t remember his name. Anyway there was no love lost between Colby FC and Colby Level. Now it seems this guy who played for the Level had left his wife and had not paid any maintenance, so whenever the fixture between the two clubs came around, the captain of Colby FC would go and report the Levels’s centre forward to the police who would come and arrest him, making sure he could not take part in the fixture. You would have thought he would have wised up and legged it whenever the fixture came round wouldn’t you? Micky Mcfee is widely regarded as the Mayor of Colby. He can usually be seen tramping around the village in his wellies during the daytime. He is also to be seen and heard around 9 p.m making his way home from the Colby Glen and singing The Old Rugged Cross at the top of his voice. Every village has its claim to fame. Roy Faragher lived in the village of Santon and may well still dwell there for all I know. Roy worked for the DHPP or highway board as it was known then. His job was painting the yellow lines on the road and I am told that Roy holds the record for the most fines for parking on yellow lines.

Okay, that quite enough of my nonsense for today. Have a good weekend and I will be back on Monday morning.

I’ve included Barbara’s latest painting of a sunrise over Derbyhaven. She’s still pondering whether to tweak a few things on it, but this is it for now.
