  1. The Liverpool Arms should be a gold mine as a pub/restaurant. It is well positioned on a major road, and is visible for a long distance. It just needed decent management.

It is well served by public transport, and the MER tram stop is not far away, so not totally dependant on cars.

The excuse about inadequate toilets is total bollox, and would not need a huge expense to overcome. Most other pubs have had to deal with this over the years.

The one thing that did work against the pub was the catering. The cook was not up to the job, and the last time we went in there, we vowed not to go again until there had been a substantial change. Well, there was a substantial change - the place shut, so we can't go back.

It's just another of those properties that are being deliberately allowed to deteriorate to the point where they will have to be demolished, then, lo and behold, a new housing estate can be built in their place.

  2. The furniture always seems to be chosen by people who are regulars in onshore cafes, but never venture out to sea.

Those bar tables with cafe style seats, for instance. Where will those go when there's a bit of weather?

John W, have they had/got/still got those in the Galicia, Salamanca, and Santona?

  3. Give it a rest.

The posts under this topic stopped being relevant to its title pages ago, and it's just proving the point that nobody cares about anything other than themselves.

Can you all please get back to having serious and constructive conversations about topics that people care about?

  4. On another forum that I tune into from time to time, someone mentioned this forum, which brought the response

"The quote from Manx Forums reminds me why I left the vile platform ten years ago."

Sometimes (perhaps too often) arguments get very bitter and twisted, and there is not much tolerance on either side. It's no real wonder that the people who are still frequent contributors do have a tendency to be just a little negative at times.

What was more difficult on our last visit was working out what our hire car was covered for...

You probably won't find that this is covered.......

Not sure about the 'marooned in the Irish sea' comment. 'Located' would be more accurate

Oh, I don't know.... just needs a bit of wind and the ferries stop running :whistling:

I trust this new found police pro-activity will extend to those oiks who superglue themselves to the M25??

They glue themselves there. They should be allowed to stay put for a few hours. Let them fester until they get hungry, need a toilet break, etc....

The siting of any wind farm on Bahama Bank would be interesting, engineering-wise! 😁

It's not too far away from Beaufort's Dyke. That might be a source of some extra power. 😎

the dozy fucktards being the wheel.

You don't just need to be a wheel to be a dozy fucktard.

I have cycled myself, and there is nothing like the adage "see and be seen". This is particularly important for cyclists, who are, to say the least, vulnerable, no matter who is driving a motor vehicle in their vicinity.

And in relation to fucktards, it takes one to know one.

  10. It appears that the law is just as much of a pillock as the lycra lout -

"Surprisingly bikes are on of the only vehicles that don’t have to have lights fitted in low level light conditions. This means that no matter how dark it gets, technically you only need your lights switched on from sunset to sunrise. Though the time requirement is judged from when the sun drops beyond the horizon, it’s advisable to have the lights fitted at all times so you can turn them on if you get caught out in some fog or heavy rain."

"the Highway Code. Rule 60 states: “At night your cycle MUST have white front and red rear lights lit. It MUST also be fitted with a red rear reflector (and amber pedal reflectors, if manufactured after 1/10/85). White front reflectors and spoke reflectors will also help you to be seen. Flashing lights are permitted but it is recommended that cyclists who are riding in areas without street lighting use a steady front lamp.”"

The plonker that I (just) saw ahead of me in the fog this morning had a barely visible flashing rear light, no reflectors anywhere, and his clothing was not hi-viz.

Quotes are from a biking supply company in the UK. https://blog.cyclestore.co.uk/u-k-bike-light-laws-are-you-cycling-correctly/

    It's not scabby grass,  It''s a wildflower meadow - remember? :)

At least it's not got holes in it like most of the tarmac, and it'll look a lot prettier when it flowers. ☺️
