  1. How so? it my experience IOMG sets itself immensely soft targets If it gets going at all (which it is showing absolutely no sign of doing when it comes to climate change transition)
  2. No, they can be asked to get on now with appointing the Climate Change Transition Team and spending the £10m Tynwald allocated phase one budget on greating green jobs, transitioning to a green economy & saving nature on the Isle of Man
  3. We're not connected with dead people by a few degrees
  4. Obviously there are genetic links for some of us with Ireland, but the IOM has had ties with both Merseyside and Ireland for over a thousand years through the Dublin Vikings, the latter given the Wirral peninsula by - I think - Queen Matilda of Mercia to protect against Viking raiding from further north The no doubt lengthy ferry journey from Ireland to Europe would appeal to those who'd rather lay up in a cabin than spend a day driving through England
  5. Who regulates holds them to account, the Tynwald Economic Policy & Review Committee?
  6. Wonder if setting up a through ticket to Europe via Ireland would attract much custom? There's now four ferry operators skirting round Cornwall to take Irish folks straight to the heart the heart of Europe - Irish Ferries, Cobelfret (CLdN), Brittany Ferries and Stena Line
  7. Whose books are the loans on - theirs or the governments?
  8. Then old hotels & guest houses - especially in the Lanes area of Douglas - should be redeveloped as private accommodation Self-catering & 'glamping' is the more affordable option for a lot of the market A bit of B&B around the island is good too
  9. Subsidies be for 'should season' periods to generate traffic, they're not necessary for high season It'll be very interesting to see if IOMSPC is more adventurous in their marketing now they belong to us
  10. Yes the hospitality industry would be busy for all of late May & the month of June, were it not for manic road racing & it's biker fans. Our main markets come here for the quiet serenity & unique heritage of our unspoilt green isle. Obviously CM Quayle & his mates pouring concrete all over the place - are here any green fields left on the southern lowlands? - doesn't help one bit. I base this view on donkeys years of experience & my own computer records.
  11. Nope I say & mean that in my - very expensive - experience of runnng a business serving the visitor industry the TT kills trade for about a week before the event and about a week after the event, making the event itself literally pointless from an enterprise perspective
  12. Let's celebrate the history & heritage to the max with the Festival of Ancient Motorcycling, move on with the actual racing
  13. Years of experience forking out for staff to do next to nothing for a week either side of the TT from my own pocket
  14. Only a TT enthusiast hotelier would be bothered
