  1. There was definite falling out with the station manager,at the time. I can't recall his name but was very surprised when he told me at some length about Wint's aggresive attitude towards him. I wasn't that interested but he must have been feeling the need to vent about it!
  2. About 5 years ago ,Andy Wint announced he was writing a book about music on the IOM in the good old days (can't remember which era exactly but I think it was the 1960's.) He appealed on MR for photos/memories and lots of people spent time and effort to help with his research. Ever since he has promised that the book would be out by Xmas, but still waiting!
  3. Grief displays on facebook are usually akin to a cloud of starlings in the sky at dusk. Turning the whole site into a memorial garden would be an awful idea. No it wouldn't. Some South African guy in Santon has put in a planning application for a 'botanical garden of global significance', including sensory garden, wildflower area to attract biodiversity, Japanese garden, water cascade etc. All that could easily be done on the Summerland site without the rather suspect additions in the planning app for an estate and associated buildings!
  4. For those that are interested there's a petition on a Facebook page called Summerland Fire for the whole site to be made into a memorial garden.
  5. Children should be out enjoying our rich and beautiful countryside, becoming one with nature, not wasting their time in buildings designed for their entertainment. They will spend enough of their adult lives wasting away in buildings. And they'll have an eternity to spend inside a box six-foot under. They should get out there and enjoy this beautiful planet. I'm sorry but I think you missed the part where I said miserable day. Which unfortunately is for a long time on the isle of man You've obviously not read the previous posts. You wouldn't be bleating about what constitutes a miserable day if you had. .
  6. How you can read the heartbreaking stories on here then glibly suggest the site should be used as a railway museum is beyond me. Nothing should be built there except a beautiful memorial garden.
  7. That site will ALWAYS be haunted
  8. Huh? What did he do wrong? That was a lucky escape by both riders. The constant and thinly veiled sh*t-stirring undertone - I guess you could leave it to open debate to get him flamed, but it seems to annoy a lot of people by now. Doesn't annoy me as much as your random moderating. Getting boring? I don't think so - especially in comparison to the Spewin' Juan' thread which you allowed to go on and on and on ad infinitum.
  9. Where do you mean by the 'mainland'?
  10. Good thread on it here (scroll down a bit) https://www.facebook.com/groups/manxnostalgia/
  11. What was the name of the last bakers in Ramsey that closed about 5 years ago - they made very tasty baps and I wish I could have got hold of their recipe before they shut. Ramsey bakery bread is so awful I only buy it (the brown loaves) to feed the birds. Try rolling one of RB's loaves in your hands - it just ends up as a soggy lump of dough.
  12. I seem to remember that if you sailed 5 times in a year, you got a free sailing... it worked out quite nice for me at times... I remember that, and the special Irish sea 3-way tickets. Happy days.
  13. Just booked return to Heysham in April for campervan and 2 people (Premium lounge) for £270. Quite happy with that. Also booked CalMac, return Oban to Mull in April (camper and 2 people) - £123.60 (non-premium) for a 46 minute each way journey. Steam Packet seems quite reasonable if comparing distances.
  14. I was in my juggernaut at the time and it wouldn't fit in the tunnel.
  15. "Also this thing of them sailing from Dublin and Belfast is just daft. It's maximum an hour and a halfs drive from one to the other now so sailing fro one or other port would be quite sufficent." I agree, and as it takes nearly as long to get out of Dublin as it does to drive all round the IOM I'd be happy for them to concentrate on Belfast.
  16. Good for small scale to grow spuds in too.
  17. Anyone whose perfect meal is McDonalds should be dragged through the street in a dustcart and thrown in the harbour Manx or not. You should be ashamed to be Manx if that is your aspiration you loser. In fact what sort of dipshit applauds the way American cultural imperialism spoils a quiet rural community but dislikes the English influence on the Island so much they spraypaint slogans. Your a fucking moron love ... get your coat. She's a new kid on the block and fuelled by idealism rather than sense. Bit harsh to call her a moron - she's young and she'll learn.
  18. Just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your Blog, and that my thoughts are with you.
  19. The Viking in Ramsey, with it's 8 Band Nights; The Iron Pier - music nearly every night, the Talk of the Town (or have I just dreamt that last one up?) In Laxey - The Coach & Horses with music in the room upstairs. And in Douglas Queens Prom was brilliant for music when I was a kid and being dragged round the pubs by my parents!

    Ufo's

My Mum reckoned she saw a ball of fire floating over Douglas Head in the 1950's (we all thought she'd been on the gin). But about 8 years ago, driving south from Peel to Port Erin around midnight, what looked like a single orange headlight was rolling down South Barrule at about the same speed we were doing. It just moved along steadily for what seemed like ages, then suddenly disappeared. Weird.
