  1. Anyone remember ID? That was the best of the lot in my view. I don't think I've seen that one. I'll need to try and get it. Something rings a bell about it so maybe I have seen it in the past and forgotten about it.
  2. Surprised you say its in the mould of Football Factory, as apart from the first bit where he started off in football hooliganism, the majority of it was about being a smalltime gangster running the doors in clubs. You are right, it was based on the true story of the "Range Rover murders". Some of the news footage used near the end of the film was real footage. A good film though I did enjoy it. Most of these films, Football Factory/Green Street/Essex Boys are good. We seem to be good at making these sort of films.
  3. Me too. I'd expected quite a lot of the film and it never felt like it really got going. It certainly didn't match with my experiences of the 80s either - but then I did grow up in Peel. So you never had a skinhead haircut then?
  4. I was disappointed with This Is England, shame as I was looking forward to it as I prefer British films to most of the Hollywood ones. I didn't think there was much of a story to it, and it didn't really capture the 80's either. However on the subject of Shane Meadows films, ever seen Dead Man's Shoes? That's an excellent film starring Paddy Considine.
  5. Can recommend Rise Of The Footsoldier. Based on the true story of Carlton Leach and associates. Carlton worked his way up from football casual in the ICF to feared Essex gangster. The story starts briefly in the 70's but is mainly focused on his "career" during the 80's and 90's, building up to the Rettendon Range Rover murders of 1995 A fast paced film that grips the attention from start to finish.
  6. I think i've seen something like that before? Thinking about it now, it does seem very similar!
  7. Outlaw with Sean Bean, Danny Dyer, Bob Hoskins. Absolutely awful film. Waste of time. It's about a group of people fed up with the violence in the UK. Sean Bean is a soldier just back from a tour of duty, finds his wife with someone else. Danny Dyer gets beaten up after a car accident. Lennie James is a barrister whose pregnant wife gets killed by a member of the gang he is trying to prosecute in court. Another member, a student was attacked and put in hospital and wants to get his own back on his attackers. They form a vigilante group to bring down primarily the gang that killed the barristers wife. Despite having a good cast, the pace was slow and story poor. They all seemed to be able to use guns regardless of what background they came from. (Sean Bean, the soldier being the exception). And everyone seemed to be able to leave their day jobs when they wanted to do their vigilante work. When it became too dangerous the vigilantes left town for a bit, again no questions asked by workplaces, friends or family as to where they had been! And they all drove about in an inconspicuous black Land Rover Discovery.
  8. Sahara the Seal hates the cold!
  9. Seagull gets caught shoplifting in Aberdeen
  10. A couple of films I have just got round to watching, and really enjoyed. American Gangster, with Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. Based on true story of gangster Frank Lucas who smuggled drugs back on military planes during Vietnam. Really enjoyed it. And also seen The Departed with Matt Damon, Leonardo Di Caprio and Jack Nicholson. That was a good film. Even at 2.5hrs long it kept good pace and seemed to fly in.
  11. Is Cammag only played on Boxing Day or is it held at any other time of year. Sounds hilarious. Like a dangerous Its a Knockout?
  12. 28 Weeks Later, the sequel to 28 Days Later, quite enjoyed it. More gruesome than the first one it has to be said.
  13. Spartacus: The no 1 Jeremy Spake lookalike

  14. Sharp as a tennis ball

  15. I never seem to see films when they first come out, so you have probably all seen these. Casino Royale, thought was good and in my opinion better than the Pierce Brosnan films. It just seem to be a bit more up to date, and poked a bit of fun at the 007 stereotypes. Like when the barman asked if he wanted his vodka martini shaken or stirred. He replied "Do I look as if I give a shit?" Blood Diamond, was better than I thought it was going to be, quite enjoyed it. Grittier than I thought it would be, thought we were in for an Indiana Jones type adventure! Hot Fuzz, was a bit disappointed, didn't think it matched up to Shaun of the Dead, still watchable though.
