  1. and a school environment can spread a virus pretty quickly...
  2. Helen gets the MVP here for these school questions.
  3. Horse might have bolted! It’s a tough situation, but I don’t buy the school being low risk amongst other things.
  4. You make a fair point, although I’m sure she is on a decent wage. The thing is even the UK ‘experts’ have little experience of dealing with pandemics.
  5. Old Henrietta must think we are really simple over here to believe some of her quotes!
  6. Thanks. Did they tell them as soon as they got off the bus!?! Or before they passed it on and someone spread it around the whole school? I am missing something here?!
  7. Is this from Facebook? It’s not on Twitter from what I can see...
  8. Low risk of spread and school buses don’t add up I’m afraid!! Seriously!! A week ago too!! Come on!!
  9. Ok times their numbers by a 100 or add a few thousands - they still put the UK or US in the shade. Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea the list goes on. Are NZs numbers false? US and the UK have dealt with the virus in a very ineffectual manner, there is very little debate about that.
  10. Totally agree. However Vietnam are a population of 97+ million and are next to China - 35 total COVID deaths! There is best practice in dealing with pandemics and many of the Asian countries have done what it takes. The West generally haven’t.
  11. Pride always comes before a fall unfortunately...
  12. Interesting that research about the vaccine says it reduces symptoms and spread, but clearly doesn’t stop either completely. Vaccines aren’t the solve all solution that everyone thinks they are. This premise applies to all vaccines & viruses. Unfortunately COVID is more damaging to human health than things like the common cold. That is before we talking about different strains and how vaccines become out of date very quickly. Globally there has to be a change of mentality to a more humble existence, which the IoM generally displays and that is one of the factors behind our generally sound response to COVID. One of our main problems is the UK response to COVID and our close proximity to England.
  13. Firstly, thank you for the informative and entertaining thread! On the subject of Dr. Glover, for me it's another example of government over here neglecting to listen or use someone of higher technical knowledge or experience due to egoic reasons, ignorance and because their face doesn't fit. She would provide a better service at this crucial time than anyone else on island, it's as simple as that. I've encountered this kind of situation multiple times in various work projects. I know people who have left the island for similar reasons. Some people love being in charge and being at top of hierachies even if they are ill equipped to be there and neglect people 'below' them despite them being far better qualified, more experienced or having an increased level of knowledge in specific areas. At the end of the day we pay the government employees with our taxes and unfortunately government is going to provide a low quality service in so many areas if we continue down this route. Needless to say many governments are like this, but you hope that over here that we still have the sense of right and wrong which has completely left places like the adjacent island and the US. Hopefully we get through this. There would have been no need to re-lockdown if we had continued testing returnees and if necessary extend the isolation period on return to 21 days to put people off travelling. Stay safe!
