  1. I see 'YouTube' made it onto Sky News this morning and BBC News 24 were pluging the site this evening. Apparently YouTube want to raise funds by making music videos available for download at a charge. Good idea in principal as the hosting and bandwith must cost a fortune, but it begs the question of are they victims of their own success, are they the best method for delivering the service and will adding a 'pay' element spoil a good concept? Radon Discussion

It was something about a report on the Island's Radaon levels that prompted me to look up details last time around. I have done a quick search on tynwald.org and gov.im for 'Radon', the only result I can find between the two sites is: Radon mentioned (in brackets) in the same tone as rainwater? Nice!

    Radon Discussion

I raised the issue of Radon in the Isle of Man some time ago. Having not found the thread in the search, it must have been on the previous forum. My query at the time was whether it was a threat to us based on the information in a couple of links, and why the Government didn't appear overly concerned about finding out. I don't have the time to do the necessary searches to provide the links but 'radon' does return results on the Government site, albeit old documents.

    Ufo's

There was a photo uploaded of an object "flying" over the hills south of Santon last year too. (sorry, no link stored in memory)
  5. There is a report on the event on the website of the local papers, I don't have a clue who any of the performers were, but somebody might... This Is Jersey All in all it sounded like a good event and at least there were organisers and government departments prepared to stick their necks out and give it a go. Even the hotels and ferry companies put on special package deals to encourage off Island visitors to attend. Edit: The event was recorded and it is hoped to be aired on Sky TV at some time in the future.
  6. Jersey (little rock, near France somewhere) has just held the Jersey Live 2004 Festival. The Official Website BBC Jersey Website Quite simply, my questions are should we? and if so what is stopping such an event taking place?
  7. The Examiner carries the report of Martyn Quayles accident, which includes the paragraph... www.Hospital Short Breaks.co.uk ?

    Squirrels

Whereas the Grey Squirrel is seen by many as a vermin, most agree that the Red Squirrel is an asset to woodlands. There are Red Squirell sanctuaries in a few places over in the UK and they are spending a fortune to create the right enviroments for Reds to live and prosper. I don't know much about squirrles red or grey other than they are definately a beautiful animal and considering our alledged unspoilt countryside, what we have to loose by contacting the various organisations across and offering the Island as a place to help the ongoing efforts. 9. Public reason: "We have listened to your concerns, we agree that something needs to be done and we trust you to be that person". Private reason: "We have been irriated by your incesent whining, we are going to sack you from your current position, then offer you the choice of being shut up or facing a drop in salary. *Evil Cackle*". Please note, the above may be a total fabrication, but then again...
  10. No, it's not a type of dance, it a method of shutting up outspoken opinion. It happened to Geoff Cannel when he went into Keys and he was assigned Transport (under the Tourism and Leisure umbrella) after he dared to question various working methods of the management. Not much changed after his appointment other than the inability to publicly critisize a depart that he now represented. Now Brenda Cannel... Last week she held chairmanship of the Water Authority and has spent the past couple of years locked horns with the planning Department because of their repeated refuasal to permit the progression of a new Water Treatment works. So who has been moved to Planning? Brenda... No more dissent about the Planning Department. Nice one Mr C.M. All the movers and shakers...
  11. I realise that the thread was otherwise dormant, but I sure as heck didn't start it for the purpose of factless speculation. I'd rather no comments of some stubstance than some comments of no substance. I wanted to elaborate on my original post when time permitted, not watch it be deleted
  12. I wonder how much has been spent so far and how long the 'final expenditure' will take to recouperate?
  13. I realise that it is often easier, but sanitary products shouldn't be put down toilets and thus into the main sewers. Most public toilets have bags and bins. I believe that IRIS has filters in place which will catch (or seperate) non-degradable items which can then be passed to the Incinerator.
