Boo hoo, the snobby lounge is closed. Oh woe is me.

Boo hoo, airport coffee is dear. Oh woe is me.

Boo hoo, the website doesn't meet my expectations. Oh woe is me.

You can always tell when a jet full of English* have landed. The whining continues after the engines stop.

*Obvs not Amadeus, but at least the bins are emptied weekly😂

Well excuse me for expecting the first and last touch point for most visitors to be of a certain standard so it leaves the right impression. I’ve literally been to third world province airports that were nicer and better run than Reynoldsway Heathrow on Sea. For the money they wasted on it so she got a nice CV, the place should be all singing and dancing.

And fun fact: I like lounges. They make travel that bit more comfortable and allow me to work. Same for many other business travelers who are used to a decent experience - until they come here, that is.

Can someone explain this relatively recent thing where people queue up with hundreds (thousands according to 3fm) of others to walk out to the tower of refuge when it’s packed?

Why not do it last night, or this morning, or tomorrow morning or night?

Uh I don’t know, because people enjoy doing it safely and as a community event you miserable individual.

Oh, and the Rendezvous lounge now has a permanent "Due to staffing shortages..."sign on the window, and

is looking a bit tumbleweedy inside.

Yes but at least they announced that security checks will now take longer so you won’t have much time to sit there anyway. Enjoy the outdated departure lounge instead with grumpy overpriced costa coffee and no charging outlets.

WTF is this for?  Is there going to be a big screen or something?  If so where?

Nobody goes to North Wuay to watch football so I am a bit confused by the logic.  Anyone any clues?

North Quay in Douglas will be closed for the home nations football matches during this year's Euros.

Douglas Council's Regeneration and Community Committee has approved the proposals to shut the quayside for England, Scotland and Wales games.

The committee says the proposals are still subject to consultation with police.

The first closure would be for England's game against Serbia on June 16.”

I bet you're fun at parties.

  5. Plenty of things making the rounds on the Manx rumour mill. Interesting* times ahead for IoM as jurisdiction.

    Indeed, e.g.:

"...group operates almost exclusively in territories where it is unlicensed and where online gambling and sports betting are illegal, i.e. China and the Far East."  That is definitely a red flag (no pun intended) for the Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Commission when they issue licences to (any) companies with customers based in the jurisdictions where gambling/ online gambling is illegal, IMHO.

The Isle of Man, just like Curacao, Anjouan and others, are grey market jurisdictions. As long as a lawyer says it’s legal to target a country from any of those jurisdictions it’s more or less ok. That grey market model is slowly dying out though which is why IOMG is looking to create a new egaming strategy at the moment. I can see where the industry is going. I hope they can too.

Thanks. That is more detailed than the local news articles have been.

That's because Philippe Auclair is a very good journalist and one of the very few investigative ones in the industry. I am but a mere scribe compared to him.

  8. Not good and words need to be had re maintenance. I've raised a few issues in other places (rusty fence in summerhill glen for example) and was always told this and that re maintenance budgets etc (we can only do so much). We are not supposed to be active operationally but clearly we need to keep a closer eye on things. This is not acceptable.

Just kidding. IoM factor that you pay a vast multiple for stuff that costs pennies here. Sadly.

Low speed, and hardly any real damage.

Why do we need such a big response and a closed road these days?  When cars were much less safe we would have pushed those to the side of the road, swept the road and maybe sent a couple of coppers.

You also smoked asbestos cigarettes and worked 25 hours a day down the mines. Kids these days ey….

That's assuming they have them! 😁

There are a couple of other Gaming Firms that are very Asia biased and have imported a significant portion of their staff from there.  I'd imagine they can all expect visits soon.

Or they just leave, like the ones that already have. We're losing licencees to other jurisdictions now, like Anjouan, and I think the IOM glory years are coming to an end very soon.

One could certainly imagine one or two MHKs in the hot tub with a few bottles of champers, congratulating themselves on their success, a little like Cannes a few years back.

But we've had enough MHKs and hot tub material in the past...

Don't even think about posting that picture. This is a family forum.

Gambling isn't a reliable/safe industry to build your economy on. Who'd a thunk it?

It's been good for the island for over twenty years. And which industry is? I'd argue there is more dodginess in finance and banking than there is in gambling.

We did all sorts of shit in school. Pranks, fights, etc. We were just lucky Facebook and tiktok didn't exist yet, and we also knew where the line was. Apart from maybe one or two school screw ups who couldn't be helped.

    Like Malta.

Malta now has a rep as being slow and difficult to deal with. They’re their own worst enemies. New jurisdictions of convenience are popping up fast right now to take the place or Curacao who also screwed up. IoM needs to be really careful how they treat the sector. It’s very expensive to put a gaming company here. It has to be worth it and that value proposition feels wonky to me right now.
