I was once told by a DOT worker that the red and white bollard thingies are there to allow pedestrians to cross the road without being endangered by traffic when waiting to cross the second carriageway. And he wasn't leaning on a shovel at the time so it must be true.

Took the young man out for his first outing in the pram around Ramsey today. It was so much fun that he didn't wake up once, even in a very busy Bar Logo where we stopped for lunch.
