  1. Hi, did anyone see yesterday's show (Tues), I had to leave the house at 5 to go to work but saw the trailers during the day of Paul saying who his guests were going to be etc and that he was going to learn to speak manx...... this I would have loved to see cos Paul is a fantastic entertainer. Did anyone see it?
  2. Bet no-one spotted me lol, I was back on the rock twice in the last 3 weeks (first for a hospital visit and then for the funeral) a few manx students travellled back from Lancaster (via the Heysham boat train) on the Monday 19th, I did wonder if they were MF members!
  3. Here is the Video (my tutor recommended it) http://www.forestbooks.com/system/index.html Also here is another site...... http://www.signpostbsl.com/ Oh yes forgot to mention, your tutor will probably be deaf (this scared me when I turned up at the first class cos no-one warned me!!! but he was very good at making the sounds so found him quite easy to understand!)
  4. PS When I was learning BSL I managed to get the Level 1 Video from the local library you may need to order it, and there is also a Video that tells you about the exam - which is videod incase of dispute at a later date. I didn't find the Level 1 video much use at the start as the wording and the signs are jumbled up, a bit like learning french things are said back to front, will do a google search and see if I can find anything that I used.
  5. I am not on the rock so can't be much help, but I passed my Level 1 in BSL last year, and I hope to go on to Level 2 next year - was gonna do it this year but changed jobs and wanted to settle down, as in Level 2 you need to know the regional differences a bit like accents really, and even though I am located between Preston and Wigan the signs do vary, however to do Level 3 and 4 (interpreter levels) I would have to go to Liverpool or Manchester, these levels are not open to deaf people. I work with the public and it does come in useful, though as I am not using it frequently I find that I am forgetting it - though I would recommend that we all learn it. If you do an ebay search you can pick up videos etc, but make sure it is BSL as there are other types of sign language which isn't widely used..... Moon and also Makaton which is mainly what deaf people with learning disabilities have. How large is the deaf community on the IOM? Good luck!
  6. Can anyone remember the name of the Art Teacher at Park Road approx 1975 about 1 maybe 2 years after the school went mixed..... can see his face and I think his name was Mr Sw??? (Swinton maybe??).. brill teacher. I remember he always had the radio on in class. I remember a scary maths teacher (or was it english) in 2nd year (all girls still at that time) Mr Mitchell, think he was Irish.
  7. Hi peeps, sounds like I was there same time as Last ten and Skylander and maybe Lonan? I started at Balla in 1972 (I think) the first 2 years I was in 1CP (it was all girls) and the form teacher was Miss Ferguson, think she taught French and was possibly scottish. Then in 3rd year the school went mixed and I was in 3B4 can't remember the form tutor but was sure it was a bloke. U guys certainly have brought back many memories....... Doris Hooker, Sally Seaweed the Sissons woman, We had Miss Nicholson and also Mrs Lambie for PE/Games, Miss Scatchyard(Geog), Mrs Kelly (Art), the english teacher was a nut Mr Hopster, Miss Durkin taught us French then we had miss Watson.... Does Balla still have the dentist and is the swimming pool still there and in use?
