    It would be interesting to see who/which parties they took representation from.

    Just look at the planning application and you can see the representations in full (apart from the names).

    Boo hoo, airport coffee is dear. Oh woe is me.

    Boo hoo, the website doesn't meet my expectations. Oh woe is me.

    You can always tell when a jet full of English* have landed. The whining continues after the engines stop.

    The local authority has written to Peel Sailing and Cruising Club – which built the building - saying when the lease expires it won’t be able to use it.

    Clear as mud journalism. If PSCC own/built the building how can the clowns in Peel commissioners have a say in the lease?

    The Commissioners may own the land on which it is built. PSCC will have known the risks when they built it.

  4. Jesus Dave, you don't like pubs, football or people potentially enjoying themselves. We've got that now.

    Ever thought of standing for the corpy elections, you appear to have the requisite skills.

    The last time I looked it was not mandatory to read these forums . If you don’t like the content or whatever don’t bother reading any of it ! And I happen to believe what is happening to the price of our grocery food is an important topic !

    You're right. Grocery is an important topic and deserves debate. The "he said she said" twaddle is ruining such debate for even minded adults.

  6. Rubbish. I've been using Chester Street recently and its virtually empty. Its immediately adjacent to strand street and has two lifts. If people won't park there, they're hardly likely to park in a Government staff space at Hills Meadow!!

    Here's where the gov spaces are;

    image.thumb.png.702b4374007bf67eecdfe44bed85fd1b.png

    Remember that some staff are contractually obliged to use their own vehicles for Government business.

    Paying for non-contractual parking was covered in a 2015 policy and they should all now be paying except that the charges were suspended during covid. These could be re-introduced tomorrow however the politicians all have spaces in Courts Underground which they're enjoying for free.

    No, but, yeah, but, no, but, yeah, but, no, but, yeah but I know because I'm not wasting police time because you know Micha? Well, she saw the whole thing, right, because she was bunking off school because she was gonna go down the wimbley and get off with Luke Griffiths, only she never because he's been trying to grow a moustache but it just looks like pubes, so she got off with Luke Torbet instead, only don't tell Bethany that because she's fancied Luke Torbet ever since she flashed her fanny at him during Home Ec'

     I'm sure usual suspects will be foaming at the mouth on Facebook though.

    They were - last night was hilarious. The number of kids suffering from anxiety and mental health problems which would be exacerbated by this drill, demonstrated the need for it.

    but they are eating out , just look into the government office canteen  or the one at Nobles hospital  some having bacon and egg  bab for breakfast   or a  really good lunch     and all  at prices  subsidised  ,   excellent choice of food really  well prepared   , you only have to look at  some of the obese civil servants  and nurses   to see how they are living off the fat of the land , imagine the size some of them would be if they dined out   every night as well

    Can you give us some examples of dishes and prices - just for context.

     if the other jurisdictions don't include the UK, any international cooperation will have to be via them.

    Not necessarily. Things are normally done via what is known as an International Letter of Request. This is done prosecutor to prosecutor and HMAG would then issue the appropriate instructions for forcible evidence gathering. You get a feel for the process in the Rivkin judgements https://www.judgments.im/content/J1036.htm

    Why did nobody appear to complain about the 11pm uplift when the proposed changes were put out for comments?

    It's probably worthwhile looking at the detail.

    The changes are publicized in the RTLC Applications, Decisions and Notices (ADN) circulars which are here https://www.gov.im/about-the-government/offices/road-transport-licensing-committee/ppv-drivers-operators/ppv-applications-decisions-and-notices-circulars/#accordion

    It all started in the January 2024 ADN

    image.png.d9bb7d9ba27f8d9128894e09e651d2b0.png

    None of the responses were published so we don't know who said what.

    In the 12 April ADN however we got the following;

    image.thumb.png.d8643a124637c123b56e5e5e5e743b2d.png

    image.png.f5c5e2a73c6a494d62e723cb6e916f70.png

    Then in ADN 570 a slight correction;

    image.thumb.png.3f0e7a31ea3d2baeb7f8a336100e4396.png

    There was no further explanation I could find and the minutes of their public meetings only go up to May 2023.

    https://www.gov.im/about-the-government/offices/road-transport-licensing-committee/document-library/minutes-of-meetings-held-in-public/

    There's no indication that the Tariff 2 change was suggested by a driver or operator nor any detailed explanation why the Committee changed it or how they considered the wider impact.

    The Committee is by the way;

    It's surprisingly difficult to find out who the IOM Arts Council gives funding to.  As with so much else recently there seems to have been a decline in the information available - I'm sure I've found Annual Reports easily in the past.  I suspect the relationship with the Circus is one of underwriting against loss, but that is based only on a picture on their website where the concept is illustrated with a photo of the Circus (I assume):

    image.png.d772a5e8935291a87c77871a273692a2.png

    But it seems not unreasonable and I know it's been used to encourage other commercial entertainment to come to the Island in the past.

    Rog FOI 366459 may give an insight

    If we really want our night time economy to be dominated by lagered-up cokeheads, leaving a Kipling smog of cake flavoured vape steam wafting behind then as they mill their way through the town

    We have that here now. Despite all the cash Ken is raking in. A landlord told me that the invoice he got for training included VAT so Ken's doing OK.

    I was chatting to my local landlord last night and asked if he went to the Call to Arms. He said no and it was frankly embarrassing. He knows his business and his market and is doing OK. If there was some free Gov cash sloshing around he'd take it.

    If a business is struggling then it needs to look inwardly first. Chucking taxpayer money into underperforming businesses isn't the answer.

    How does that answer the question he asked?

    He got the 2004 figures which are 21 years ago so pretty close to the 25. All obtained in a few seconds too. If he wants more he can look himself. Something which he clearly hadn't done.

    Can anyone tell me how many people were employed within the civil service here, say 25 years ago, as opposed to current figures.

    I don't think there has been a dramatic rise in the Island's population during that time.

    Can I find this data anywhere without a FOI!!!!!!

    You're not looking hard enough.

    image.png.1bf2cd944f7197aba574b4bbe605e1fb.png

    This doesn't split out "civil servants" who are a very specific group of admin and specialist officers who include prison officers, air traffic controllers, vets, lawyers and accountants among others. IIRC these number around 2500 of all public servants. This was found using google.

    This is from an FOI late last year (number 3486125)

    Sarah has been an MHK for almost 3 years now and I still don’t know what her specific opinions or convictions are on anything. The only evidence I could find was a Manx Radio article where she called for reform of poorly performing public services, which is a rather generic and piss-takey opinion to have. I imagine asking her about more nuanced issues like Israeli settlements, the rise of multipolarity in international relations, or dealing with falling birthrates would elicit little more than a generic “put the kettle on” response with her personal phone number, which has been her dominant political strategy which I hoped would’ve started to wear thin by now. MHK’s are not supposed to be delegates, not clerks/customer service for constituents; they are supposed to use their judgment to make the best decisions, and that requires some level of stubborn opinion-having and ideological convictions especially in the absence of political parties.

    You would hope a lack of opinions would be excused with a more technical understanding of Tynwald and Government, perhaps some kind of eidetic memory on legislation or policy details, but that is sadly not the case. I watched a Mannin Line interview of hers from last year that she did with the benefits office manager and there was a rather hilarious clip at the 26:00 min mark where a caller specifically asks Sarah a question only for a bit of awkward silence and gesturing, resulting in the civil servant taking the question on alongside some intermittent head-nodding from Sarah. At the end of the call, Andy says the callers question is one of policy but immediately moves on to the next caller without asking Sarah - the politician - what the policy change should be. Lmao. It was a good example of how the role of a backbench MHK has become infantilised under the whole “care bear theory of Manx politics” and Sarah is rather over-leveraged on this strategy.

    There’s just something specifically offensive about her being an MHK; there’s the obvious reason, but the incessant selfies, positivity, and semi-ironic air-headedness contrasted with a lack of opinions, convictions, interest in detail, or any political vision beyond “being there” adds insult to injury. it’s almost like she doesn’t find politics interesting, but she’s also insufficiently malicious for me to accuse her of anything controversial. It’s a weird mix of inscrutability and straightforwardness.

    Have you spoken to her and asked her directly?

  18. According to Gov figures £141m will be paid in pensions in 24-25 (FOI 3723609)

    The overpayments reported are 0.13%

    80% relate to payments made after the public servant has died but before the paying authority knew.

    There can be a lag time between death and registration of death - in my dad's case just over two weeks due to a requirement for a post mortem. The only way a paying authority would know is if a relative informed them - among all the other things that go on following a death.

    No matter how much the OP dislikes public servants (which can be the only reason for the post), the amounts involved are tiny and the amount written off even smaller (£292 between 14.08.2019 and 29.02.2024 (FOI 3709850).

    As JW quite rightly points out, even shapeshifting corrupt public servants can't commit fraud after they die.
