  1. Over 100 years, the blocks will have settled by now to make a sound foundation. The Government should do something innovative and long term with the area. But hey, the easy route is Dandaraland. The money will keep the Island afloat for about 6 days or so after the reserves run out.
  2. Yep, shoot first ask questions later. The demolition boys will have their engines running and warmed up as we speak.
  3. Nonsense. This is the Isle of man where everybody is happy and contented.
  4. wtf, you can't say "nonsense" to that post. And you weren't around when Phil the Match and his mates went on the rampage. More like the homeless, i had to go into a disused building in Port Erin about 10 years ago only to find about a dozen people living rough in there. Nonsense. There aren't any homeless people on the Isle of Man.
  5. Yep, living proof that corrective punishment works. The rebel lad as good as grew up to become a dyed in the wool establishment lacky, well paid and pensioned to boot. eta: If this one was arson, not saying it was but if it was, would the arsonist drive up to the site in a gaily painted pink car or whatever it was back then that snookered them.
  6. And the level of structural engineering, but hey: Option A - building is unsafe, demolition recommended Option B - building can be repaired and renovated He who pays the piper.
  7. I wonder if the Isle of Man has a higher rate of buildings going on fire than the UK average? I blame the (former) MHK match lad*. eta: *for the phenomenon. Not this particular fire. Obviously.
  8. Probably disc jockey Chris 'Kinners' Kinley. He does blither and witter a fair bit. I usually turn over to Radio 4 but wait until he gives one of his incisive opinions on a song. Usually "good number that" or as a variation "Good disc that, good disc" but "good number" is the default. I don't usually have to wait too long before I'm listening to Woman's Hour, or anything else for that matter.
  9. If it was PAG was it not Roger Tomlinson? It was at this PAG meeting. Roger Watterson said a few words, I think as his capacity as having experience in the UK as a national broadcaster, as well as his knowledge of local affairs. He wasn't being unkind, but he just provided a brief overview of the history of broadcasting on the Isle of Man, and only had a few words to describe and differentiate each station (including Energy FM and Kik FM).
  10. There was a PAG meeting at the Legion regarding radio stations on IoM. It was to do with Ron Berry's idea of amalgamating stations/3FM getting their hands on some of that money. Highlight of the night was when Roger Watterson (genuinely and without a hint of irony or malace), in describing the radio stations on the Island said 3fm was "musical wallpaper". At that, the 3fm camp, all decked out in their red 3fm jumpers and fleeces etc, stoop up en masse and left in silent protest, led by George Ferguson. I suppose I can't blame them but it was interesting to see.
  11. They could certainly get rid of one of the 50-75k level people. Run it past him at a lodge meeting?
  12. I don't doubt that notty. But he was on the Public Services Commission, and it is a mighty powerful body that can agree a secret pay deal and all that that implies. Easy to engaratiate yourself with so many people when it is other people's money you are spending.
  13. For some information, here's the latest Manx Radio financial report to next Tynwald. It gives such as RAJAR figures, levels of subvention the last 6 years etc, (The Chairman of Radio Manx Limited is a mighty powerful person these days on this Island, including being on the committee that awared the civil service their recent secret payrise)
  14. You get wound up like TJ. That'll do.
