  1. Thanks for that. I am still looking but no luck yet.
  2. Thanks , but she does live in a lovely place . If she was in a high rise flat in the inner city somewhere , she'd be the one moving.
  3. That was mentioned , put stuff in storage and find something later Slight fear i would be left behind on prices and she has a very small place and has gone off the idea. Still a possibility though.
  4. Thanks again , very reassuring. I can last a fair while without anything , time to explore the island and sort my Mums bungalow and garden a bit. At least my Mum can view and put in an offer for me if anything comes up.
  5. Thanks for your reply , very helpful list. Wasn't sure i would even be considered and don't want to deprive a local. A bigger problem seems to be property , your market is even madder than ours. First one for a fair while came on late yesterday in Peel , estate- agent office closed , my Mum drove up and an under offer sign up already. I get the impression investors are buying these up without even viewing. Good to get my intention out there anyway , i will look into the work thing a bit more , haven't done a C.V for years.
  6. Hi all , I am looking to move to the Isle from Hampshire if possible. My Mum lives there and is getting on and not been well so would like to be there to see more of her and help out with chores etc , plus i really like it there and not so much here anymore. First problem is finding somewhere to live , your prices are now the same as here , my budget up to £250k is starter homes which are in short supply and either snapped up by locals hopefully , or investors. Anyway , if i could find somewhere , i just wanted to ask about work and the possibility of finding anything. I am not an accountant , Doctor , teacher , nurse etc so believe i would need a work permit. I am a late fifties male , still fit and have mostly been a mechanical fitter , currently working for a small company doing assembly. I don't need a lot , doesn't have to be high salary , part=time would do. Just wanted people's opinions on whether i would have much chance of finding anything for 20-25 hours a week as islanders have priority , rightly so.
  7. LOL , At 34 seconds , contractor dancing behind him .
  8. I feel the same , but am only an occasional visitor , not a resident.
  9. I did wonder how locals felt about tourism , The IOW gets a lot , probably pees off some who live there but not the business owners , as you say a balancing act. My mother lives in Peel and that can get pretty busy even without tourists currently.
  10. Which are 2 of the things that stop it being flooded by tourists like the IOW was last week when I went over to visit a mate , thus keeping it a lot nicer.
  11. Hey Maximus , thanks for taking the time to answer , I am contemplating a move hence my interest. The IOW seems a lot busier with tourists ,apart from TT and is smaller. Sunnier and a bit warmer. Shorwell is one of the nice bits. IOM is more beautiful , only my opinion but I prefer rugged. As I said , I have only visited both , about 8 times each , different than living there so value your opinion as you've lived in both.
  12. Hi Manximus , How would you compare living on the 2 islands , i have only visited , both lovely but quite different . Very interested in your views. Thanks.
