  1. Hello! I've been getting into Akira Kurosawa movies. Watched Yojimbo last weekend, and Seven Samurai this weekend. I've got Rashomon and Ran left to watch. Can anyone recommend other films of his?
  2. I think we've seen different versions of this film. The one I saw featured mega-graphic torture porn.

Some inconsiderate bastards have made "Bozz" and "Bozzley" already on that server (and "Bosley" too! Damn you Tee!). So in the spirit of naming characters after Manx things I've made a dwarf hunter called "Comeover". See you soon.

    Fuck it, count me in
  5. Fantastic Mr Fox is cussing brilliant. Good for kids and adults. Recommended.
  6. Saw Inglourious Basterds earlier in the week, a superb return to form for Quentin Tarantino. And then today I watched Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Not the digitally remade versions, the proper old-school originals. Was good until the ewoks turned up, which is when I fell asleep. I woke up when the emperor started being all lightningy. Good films.
  7. Mr Brooks. How this film isn't widely known is beyond me. A creepy film that asks some interesting questions, then makes with the murders.
  8. Crank 2 is the apex of the current era of cinema. It cannot be bettered within my lifetime.
  9. Just seen The International, starring Chancer and the screamy one out of King Kong who wasn't actually King Kong. It's one of them "message" films, but possibly the best example of one I've seen in quite a while. Ten minutes of fairly gritty shooty action, eighty minutes of talking about serious things, four minutes of "this here thing what the film is about is bad for society and the world, innit", and not one wedged-in-to-appease-marketing romance. It does get, well, boring, but considering the subject matter and the sheer craft which has gone into the film, it's perfectly acceptable. And I'm hammered, and I watched a boring film, and I liked it, so it must be good. For anyone who knows weird German films and isn't sure - it's by the guy who did Run Lola Run, but it's fuck all like Run Lola Run. But it's worth a watch, though. It also contains a variation on the "sometimes burning bridges gives you the light to see by" quote, which is also good. I'd give it three and a half World Banks out of five.
  10. If you wanted to see cocks, you could have looked on, ooh I dunno, the internet? It's full of them, figuratively and literally. Erm, so I've been told. Ahem.
  11. In The Loop. Made me realise that I'm an amateur when it comes to swearing. Sixteen stars out of five.
  12. I finally forced myself to watch The Fountain the other night. I've had it for ages, tried to watch it three times before, but it's sooo frigging sloooow. Bloody hell, I loved it. Kinda sci-fi, very beautiful, very very clever film. I've watched it twice since, still can't fathom how someone came up with it. Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz were superb. If you have patience and a very open mind when it comes to films, I'd recommend giving it a chance.
  13. Role Models made me laugh louder and longer than that time the cat fell off the table.
  14. Brilliant Hold on, are you my dad?
  15. First time I saw Southland Tales, I wasn't sure if I was watching the best or the worst film ever made. Hated some bits of it, couldn't understand what the hell was going on, but there was something about this big glossy bat-shit crazy film that I liked. I've seen it a few times now, and it's grown on me big time. And the soundtrack is superb - lots of ambient electronica linking songs by Radiohead, Muse and the Pixies. (also - if you've seen the film but want to know more about it, there's a comic book that acts as a prequel, explains a helluva lot more than the film did)
