  1. My contract of employment is quite specific in that I am expected to work to meet the needs of the business and that it may (and does) include weekend and evening work. I don't get paid overtime either. Unlike this lot who probably complain to management if they're two minutes late going for their tea break and who will book an hours overtime if they're two minutes past their finish time.

And please don't give me the whole "you're an office worker, how would you know" act. I've had a wide and varied employment history, including working as a concrete moulder, a forestry board worker, a factory machinist and several building sites doing the most manual of tasks. Your assumptions are wrong and I assure you I'm well placed to asses these people as lazy clockwatchers who have no interest in doing anything other than eking out a job for as long as possible to reap some overtime as they approach a deadline and having a good old chuckle about it.

You don't think the perception that DoI workers do nothing but lean on shovels all day came out of nowhere do you?

  2. 24r working in shifts through out the year. If you had all the labour etc on one project doing that then even if the max are working on the site at anyone time at present surely that at least half the time scale.

The impression given is there is no urgency in respect this job, they even stopped for a week during the TT. If this had been on the TT course it would never have got into this state in the first place but you can be damn sure it would have been done with a lot more urgency.

There's an incentive to work slowly you know. It's the overtime they'll need to do to get the job finished in time.

  3. I see where you are coming from, The residents up by Peregrine House would be affected along with the people who live between the Peregrine House entrance and the entrance for the Belmont Carvill Homes estate.

I understand what you are saying but it doesn't always work out that more operatives means a reduction in scheduled duration, although I agree in many cases it can.

The trouble with doing one scheme and then starting another upon completion is that it spreads the whole duration of all schemes over a longer period, for example: you know when you start refurbishing your house and by the time you finish one room its on to the next and then by time you've finished all the rooms it's time to do the whole lot again, well this is similar, kind of, or the roads are in such a state that they all desperately need doing, again I speak as an individual as I am not aware of the overall strategy my Department has planned.

Affected yes. Prevented access no. You don't think they're already affected by this farcical process?

Your house analogy is apples and oranges. Although I do find it enlightening that you admit that all the roads are in a state. Makes me question who let them get that way...

I don't think your Department actually has a strategy, that's 90% of the problem. Even simple things like when Ballanard Road is closed at one junction in both directions, the traffic lights continue to turn green for them. It's irritants like that which really show up the blatant disregard for residents. You're all either incompetent or incredibly arrogant. Pick one.

  4. Er....what about the business's, residents and fuel deliveries etc.....is it bollox to them cos you and ANS want it done quicker?

How many residents would not be able to access their property if the road between the bottom of Belmont Hill and the QB was closed?

Look, I understand why you're defensive, but the fact remains that your entire department is poorly managed, has scant regard for the residents of the Island and is mostly comprised of illiterate chimps without opposable thumbs. The number of concurrent projects that are attempted is staggering, when everyone outside your collection of inbred mouthbreathers can see that a less disruptive approach is for you to put more men on a smaller number of projects and get them finished quicker. Every project has a number of man days it requires to complete. More men on the project means less real time. If you can't see that either then you're no better than the workshy cretins you claim to "manage",

Oh, and I make no apology for wanting it done quicker. When I employ tradesmen, I want them to do the quickest and most professional job. As a taxpayer.....

  5.

I'd rather the entire road was shut for four weeks solid and done than this utter fiasco of 80 weeks while they appear to do next to no work and make no discernible progress from day to day.

Are you kidding? They are making fantastic progress especially when you consider there is major re-construction involved and the fact that the utilities and local authority supplies have been re-routed and/or replaced along with a major overhaul and residing of the storm water drainage, in addition it is very high quality, and I'm not saying that because its my Department but even as a general lay person I think equally the same.

No, but I think you are. You need to take your department tinged spectacles off. It's an absolute disgrace that replacing less than a mile of road takes a year and a half.

  6. Lots of info in this thread you may find useful.

Seems to be a bit random for me whether I can access the Play store with a naked connection. Sometimes it works over 3g (Sure) and sometimes not. Also have varying results on both MT and WiManx broadband. That might be a cache thing though as I'm flicking between all three of them throughout the day.

Have to say it's mostly working now as opposed to not at all though.

  7. Hollywood should have realised making films of comic books never ends well.

Yeah, Nolan's Batman films sucked, Donner's Superman was terrible, Raimi's first two Spidey films were dreadful and the less said about Singer's first two X-Men films the better.

  8. People are expensive to move in ferries. They want space, bars, shops, restaurants, and so on.

Err, I don't. I'm not alone either. I want to be transported from A to B, on time, safely and reliably. That's pretty much it. If I want a snack, I'll take it with me from home. If I want a drink, they can put a vending machine in.

I don't want a full cooked meal (at those prices), I dont want a shop full of tatty shite and I don't really see why a bar is such an automatic inclusion on a passenger ferry. Seriously, you can't manage a four hour crossing without a beer?

As suggested above, I'd happily sit in my car if I had one with me, and I'd be more than happy to sit on any old seat. With all the shit shops and bars pulled out, there would be loads of room for more so everyone can sit down.

It's not a pleasure cruise, it's a mode of transport.

  9. You must have missed the other part of my reply then, you strike me as someone who can't read.

I saw it, and dismissed it entirely as it had no relevance to any of the salient points Dave raised. The only part of your reply that addressed his post was a semantic query about what point it was.

  10. What point, Page 16 of a thread or what?

At the point where people have started arguing in circles with no clear end in sight.

I think it's interesting that in a post which highlights the outlandish nature of your claims, the only thing you choose to reply to is a bland and pointless semantic question. You strike me as someone who only holds an opinion because it was given to him.

  11. This is pretty self explanatory I hope. We thought it would be a good idea to try and capture all the local events people choose to promote in various places on this forum in one area.

A slight break from tradition, but we would like to see gig promotion in this section too, and not in the Music forum. For now, we'll be moving any stray topics that crop up over the next few weeks as people get used to it.

Please note this doesn't change the rules on commercial event advertising.

We're more than happy to listen to feedback after it's been given a chance to settle in and we've seen how it works. Please use the Feedback forum for that though.

  12. The Happening. Avoid if you know what's good for you. The only bad thing about Boogie Nights is that it gave Marky Mark the impression that he could act. He can't. And neither can anyone else in this piece of shit.

I wish I'd read this before I wasted 91 minutes of my life last night. I came in this thread to post almost exactly these words, although I planned on swearing more.

  13. if you think i am some hick yokel then your as thick as horseshit and it was a waste of a university course that someone else would have put to better use you middle class arrogant tosser.

I do think that and and I didn't go to university, I left school at 16 to work in the same factory that my father still works in after 40+ years. Hardly 'middle class'.

I still gleefully await the explanation of sublimation in your own words that you're so inexplicably avoiding giving. For someone so insistent that other people back up their own statements with demonstrations of their own understanding, I'm puzzled why you would be so reluctant to comply with such a simple request.

I imagine the Hospice are rubbing their hands at their impending donation. Will you get a picture of you handing over the cheque please, that would be super.

  14. What does sublimate mean please?

You didn't do science at School or Uni then , Ohh Im so disapointed expected better from the Mod who is ermm so at the "cutting edge" of everything

    :o

I'm not asking him to explain it because I don't understand it myself, but because I don't believe he does. He's incapable of putting anything in his own words, it's all copy and paste from YouTube comments.
