  1. Spotted a very unfit looking Knoxville at the NSC as well as a dapper looking John Faragher who seemed to be wandering around aimlessly upstairs while I assume he was waiting for someone. Also, I spotted Slim leering sinisterly.
  2. Anyone remember ID? That was the best of the lot in my view.
  3. Topic closed until tomorrow while those of you ruining this thread with your crap have a think about things. Edit: Crap removed.
  4. The Mist By co-incidence, I actually read the Stephen King short story for this a few weeks ago and didn't even realise they'd made a film of it until I saw the movie posters. I naturally expected it to be utter turd, as most King translations are but I was hugely pleased with it. I had some initial trepdiation about how the film would end as the story really wasn't a good ending and I remember being narked that I'd wasted my time reading 150 pages only to be given that. However, the film very closely follows the plot and scenery, much of the dialogue repeated and most of the characters are exactly how you expect them. The ending though. Wow. It was only an additional three to four minutes of screenplay that weren't in the story but it was very brave, very well done and gets a massive thumbs up from me for bucking the trend of most modern Hollywood films. Bravo. Well worth a watch.
  5. I watched Hancock at the weekend. I feel a tad aggrieved at the fact I paid twenty four fecking quid for two tickets in Leicester Square (Note: Never bitch about the Palace again) but the film was actually ok. When I'd heard of the film, I thought the premise was great and the trailer seemed to back that up but I'd been put off a bit by the reviews. For me though, the reviewers missed the point of the film. I thought they could have spent more time with Hancock being an asshole before they jumped into his rehabilitation as some of those scenes were genuinely funny. Will Smith was very good in a role you wouldn't normally expect him to carry off. The plot took a slightly unexpected turn but not really to its detriment, although perhaps a little more backstory wouldn't have gone amiss. I enjoyed it, but with hindsight I would probably have waited for the DVD. Especially given I could have bought the bloody thing for the price of those two tickets and I'd not have had to suffer giggling foreigners behind me pebbledashing the audience with popcorn at every gag.
  6. Met Skrappey just now when I lifted a filing cabinet into his car. I don't think he realised who I was. I was going to discuss his recent comments about me with him. Damn.

    Pub Watch

I think you're being unfair about the Cornerhouse. Every pub has a slightly unsavoury element, but Julie has worked bloody hard to turn it into a decent pub with a good live music schedule.
  9. You actually dream about anyone on here, even Ans? What do you mean? Even ans?
  10. In certain lights I look that way.
  11. Mo Beats buying a million* coffees in a newsagent yesterday morning *approximately
  12. Beer is clouding my memory. What?
  13. From all accounts, he stole the idea from the Blair Witch Project it seems.
  14. Some countries released it yesterday. There's a really shitty cam floating around, non scene. Also a mislabelled MVS R5, which is just the same shit cam. I can't imagine anything worse than watching a movie that was filmed on a hand held camera and then refilmed on another hand held camera and then compressed. Monster movies should be saved for monster screens!
  15. ian rush, looking as rough as a dog in his garden yesterday morning.
  16. Jacob's Ladder is my favouritest film in the world. Excellent choice. Try watching it high.
  17. If you rewatch it, there are clues about it right throughout the film. They cover some of them at the end but there are others. Kinda hard to discuss around it without spoiling things so I'll just shut up and say once again what a great film it was.
  18. I'd had The Prestige sat around for ages and just never got round to watching it, but it popped up on Sky Premiere this week and I had nothing better to do on a Sunday than light a coal fire and watch it. It's hard to describe too much of the film without giving too much away. It's beautifully shot, well acted and it's a great script. The story twists and turns as it goes along, giving you enough clues to work out what is really going on but only if you're paying attention. I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't get the final twist completely, although as soon as they showed it I realised how painfully obvious it was and there was a bunch of foreshadowing. Annoyed to admit the person watching it with me came up with the right answer and I dismissed it. Bah. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and in a weird way, the more I've thought about it since, the more I think I feel I enjoyed it. It's a shame that with films like these, you can't really watch them more than a couple of times because it's driven by the mystery and the clues. Definitely recommended. Oh, and I watched the new Futurama movie on Saturday night while we were waiting for the Hatton fight. It's Futurama, I don't need to say any more than that really. Miss it at your peril.
  19. Watched two films yesterday (lazy day) Shoot 'Em Up - A deliberately over the top gun and chase film. Clive Owen is perfect in the lead role, that's got a slight whiff of Max Payne about him. The sheer number of guns, set piece action scenes and ridiculous stunts managed to paper over the daft plot. It's a parody on action thrillers, but manages to be funny, exciting and a good script, if a little minimal. Stardust - I'll get shouted at no doubt, but I thought this was turd. The storytelling was a mess, the acting was lousy and the script was poor. It had a couple of nice comedy touches, mostly involving the ghostly brothers, but most other situations were contrived and unfunny. It was a shame to see someone like de Niro hamming it up in such a shitty role. Hugely disappointing, considering the trailers made it appear to be a decent adult fantasy film. I'm sure the girls and teenagers will love it though. But what do they know?
  20. Meh, I thought it was OK, not as good as the original but certainly watchable, although having a fitting epileptic as the cameraman wasn't such a good directorial choice, it gave me a fucking headache to watch it. Any film that has the best zombie scything scene since Brain Dead gets a thumbs up from me!
  21. I watched Eastern Promises at the cinema in Manchester on Wednesday. Not quite what I was expecting, I thought it was more action driven but it was an excellent drama. Mortenson in particular was commanding. The violence in parts was very graphic, but not gratuitously so. The kiss at the end was unnecessary though, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it.
  22. On the flip side, I watched The Condemned recently and although it's a cheesy, predictable romp, it's not trying to be anything but that and doesn't dress itself up in any other way. It's not going to stretch your brain but as a low budget action flick, it's actually not that bad. The wrestler does a pretty good job, and it's actually the best performance I've seen from Vinnie Jones in any film, he's a pretty legit tough guy these days.
  23. Well, I finally watched Hostel 2 and it was the most godawful, wretched piece of cinema I've seen for quite some time. The first one looked like a diamond in a sea of floating pig turds compared to this. The gore was toned right down, the plot was weak and I think I could have told you the twist of the two clients as soon as I saw them. It was clichéd, lacked any sort of atmosphere and was atrociously directed. Hostel 1 had few redeeming qualities, this had none whatsoever.
