  1. As to local producers, Tesco bread flour was the go to for home bakers, they no longer stock it prefering to stock the more expensive Laxey bread flour, IMHO i reckon the Mill's wholesale price to Tesco is so low, it outstrips the profit from their own product, such is business 🙄, many home breadbakers now use M&S, flour, good quality and more affordable, it flies of the shelf, best to grab it if there is any left.

You mean the Manx gas / island energy gas depot 😂 you don’t store petrol or diesel in a gas tank 😂😂

Correct, the present owners, but who built it iniitialy ?

So where is this fuel depot now? Did they really spend millions to then not use it? Makes zero sense

It is still there, but as to who now owns it now--?  have a look on Googly earth, it's the big ball shaped installation.

But nowhere to ship the fuel in to.

In the dim distant past, Shoprite owned the land patch behind the Breakwater, they constructed  a fuel depot there, a knife to the throat for shell etc, after argy bargy, their plans to import fuel were shelved and preferential prices granted for supply of fuel by the local fuel firms. maybe this is still a goer or preferential prices will continue.

  5. Tesco's operating method of "Store it on the shelves" model does'nt fit well on the Island, undependable ferries = russian supermarket shelves.

Shoprite though have the WC Wilson' store opposite the power station, frozen and dry, will Tesco adapt the method to suit the Islands needs if they grab it with the buyout?

  6. Off the top of my headI think in the 70's, The"Imp" was operated by the Birch Family, i'm unsure of  who the the property owner was.

The original Imperial Hotel, Douglas, was at the base of the Red Pier, built on the site of the Original Town Hall and Gaol, used as storage by the Packet in it's later years, eventually demolished. The small building to the right was part of the Town Hall building, originally the Pier Watch House, as the Piers grew, a second flor was added, in my youth it was known as the "Rocket House" as the Rocket brigade worked out of it. It still exists i'm thinking.

Hmm, you may be right but it seemed to have a sense of occasion perhaps? Modern buildings do tend to be a bit that way, light and airy but lacking in something.

How dining rooms were not so long ago, I remember ones like this . Crookalls Imperial restaurant, 12 Victoris St

how can a well paid business like an advocate practice  go down for so much money   especially in a booming housing market and a multitude of other legal entities that cost so much  to resolve ,

Not all management is good management, look to the IOM Gov departments for many, many examples 😒

Ditto , but i do like a good chippy 😋 This one has been all around the room, I wish the new owners? well

  10. Was the shift in tidal pattern caused by the breakwater extension not the cause ? I'm sure i read of this a few years back?

I think in the 50's, post war, to relieve unemployment work schemes were started, my ould fella did "Tide work" on groyne installation, the Marine drive bridge replacements, similar, a good few blokes were shipped to Linconshire to harvest sugar beet, different days now 🙄

It's odd how Kier Starmer and the Labour Party are now all of a sudding taking the immigration situation seriously.

Anyone can see that there is only a handful of immigrants arriving in UK, a handful I tell thee, and they are no problem to anyone. It is just the Tory Party and the readers of the Daily Wail (geddit!!) who are doing this to take our focus away from how utterly shit and corrupt they all are.

But true, Kier Starmer and that are starting to take serious note, but everyone knows they are just as bad as the Toies and as shit and corrupt as them. They are all ignorant and couldn't run a tap and that.

Katie Hopkinson is just another Tory stooge or whatever, stirring it up to take away the focus from how shit and corrupt all the politicians are but I already said that but only because it is true. I bet she reads The Daily Mail in bed with a cup of tea.

Did she not write a colomn for the Daily Heil and was sacked for right wing arseholery 🤔

Free speech may be a right, but, with power comes responsibility etc.

As a result, there's a whole list of reasons it might not be as free as you think.

Hopkins promised to run around London naked with a sausage up her bottom if Sadiq Khan was elected.

I believe she's still yet to get around to it.

I can provide a sausage if requested , a Matheson's smoked is what i had in mind 🤔

  13. In the Clarendon Grill the fillet steak was finely sliced and diced , seasoned, some  beaten egg added, on a prep trolley at the table, a la Tartare, formed into a bowl shape, a piece of smoked cheese inserted and then formed into a"patty"  taken to the grill and cooked to the diners choice,  A Vienna Steak  Yum😋

Mrs Phantom is a veggie (actually a pescatarian) so eats fish, but nothing cute (with eyelashes) so I get to sample some her products and concoctions.  Most of them are quite tolerable and would be great with bacon on and this is exactly what I do on the occasions I have one of her veggi meals.

However, I do wonder about meat substitutes, not old school honest Tofu however, but the stuff that is made to feel and taste like meat.  It is just so fake, manipulated and processed, that I fail to see how it can possibly be more healthy for you or with lower environmental impact than a slice something that could have been in a field down the road a few days ago.  It’s virtue signalling again, but on the plus side it makes some labs and researchers a lot of money!

As for the moral aspect, personally I think if you want to eat meat, you need to have at some point hunted, killed, prepared and eaten an animal, as a right of passage/atonement/sign of respect.

I have done the above, I'm not sure It's for everyone.  Likewise fair play to a vegetarian, whatever their reasoning, It's just the "Apeing" of traditional meat products I find weird. 🤪
