  2. Another good question. The trade only knows what happens when the AD&N comes out. I personally had not seen the AD&N but was sent an email link to it. I was not happy about the 11pm situation, but was unsure if the general census was that it was a good idea. I am led to believe that the RTLC chair will likely make a statement over the next couple of days. The real truth will then be told. It is becoming slightly clearer however to me that contrary to my first thoughts, some in the trade were actually in favour of starting the night rate to 11pm.
  3. I genuinely with total respect for your question do not know the answer. I suspect to push more towards the bus in the interest of all things green and Gov, but that's only a guess. I am truthfully sickened by the decision and hope that by the end of the day it is reversed.
  4. Keeping this simple. Private Hire Fares can and generally will be pre-quoted and variable. Taxi meters should in my opinion not be in private hire cars. Metered fares are maximum permissable. That is true. It is also true however that having a meter in a ply for hire PPV (hackney), using it and then charging less is unworkable in the real world. Put simply, all the driver of a rank, or hail down wants to know is where the passenger is going. Having a fare negotiation time and time again is not what the job is all about. Ply for Hire fares (from ranks) are by their nature generally non-negotiable and indeed are legally supposed to be metered. Indeed price quoting and fixing from a rank is generally not the done thing. Even more so at night where booze and drugs are quite regularly taken by many a passenger before travelling. The trade has little or no problem with charging 30p extra in the day or 40p extra at night per TOTAL journey. The problem however is the decision by the RTLC to push Rate 2 back to 11pm. That essentially means a 50% increase for that hour. The trade itself did not ask for this. Sensible people in the job, full time drivers like me, look at the job linger term. We realise things are tough out there and we also realise that many cannot afford Tariff 2 so go home before midnight. Now they will likely have to go home before 11pm to avoid the higher fare. I am "moaning", as you put it, because I, as an individual, feel once again to be made out to be a greedy git, whereby all I personally asked for was 20p per ride before midnight or 30p after. I don't need the help from the RTLC whom I feel have not, nor never have had my best interest at heart. My one bit of simple advice to you is to distinguish the difference between ply for hire and private hire, plus, the difference between operators that use service providers and those that simply freelance of the rank. Until you do that all you simply do is push confusion where it simply is not required or necessary.

The NERA report published 2019 however seemed to indicate (although it's a long tough read, even more difficult than here, was that whilst debt must be repaid, the continually changing wholesale price should have a reflection on retail prices. I do not currently see any effort to ensure that the public see a transparent pricing mechanism currently. I see an outdated Electricity Act, a complex difficult to understand NERA report, cancelled out by the Curran Report which led to the 5 year Action plan whilst now concentrating on going green. Hope that makes sense? 🤔 It doesn't to me but it might to you. I'm not sure it does to the average MHK either so it's probably a safer bet to politically ignore it and let the public turn the lights out.
  9. Recent correspondence from the Treasury Minister. I had permission to share. Our Island Plan includes a commitment to ensure energy security for our island and manage the transition to carbon net zero by 2050. Part of this will require legislation on a range of energy issues and more tighter regulation of a range of activities carried out both by individuals and companies. I believe that the current status of Manx Utilities as a Statutory Board, and the scrutiny from Tynwald regarding their pricing structure, operations and future plans provides for the reassurance that the public have a “transparent vision into where their money is going” in terms of electricity tariffs but also for water and sewerage charges. MR SPEAKER I CAN CONFIRM THAT MANX UTILITIES ANNOUNCED ITS TARIFFS FOR 2023 YESTERDAY. DURING 2022 WE ENGAGED AN INDEPENDENT FIRM OF PROFESSIONAL ADVISORS TO ASSESS OUR FINANCIAL POSITION AND AT THE START OF THIS YEAR THEY RECOMMENDED THAT A SIXTY PERCENT TARIFF INCREASE WAS NECESSARY FOR MANX UTILITIES TO CONTINUE TO FUND PURCHASES OF ENERGY. THE BOARD DETERMINED THE INCREASE SHOULD BE APPLIED AS A TWELVE PENCE PER KILO-WATT HOUR INCREASE AND HAS WORKED WITH GOVERNMENT TO APPLY THIS IN TWO STAGES, IN A SIMILAR MANNER TO LAST YEAR’S INCREASE. THE DEFICITS ACCUMULATED OVER THE LAST 18 MONTHS HAVE BEEN MET PRINCIPALLY FROM A TOTAL OF £25 MILLION OF WITHDRAWALS FROM THE BOND REPAYMENT FUND AND ALLOWING OPERATIONAL CASH BALANCES TO REDUCE. THIS HAS SIGNIFICANTLY WEAKENED MANX UTILITIES’ FINANCIAL POSITION AND IT HAS BEEN LEFT IN A POSITION, REGRETTABLY, WHERE IT HAS HAD TO FURTHER INCREASE ITS TARIFFS. THE INCREASES ANNOUCED WILL MEAN THAT ISLE OF MAN DOMESTIC ELECTRICITY TARIFFS REMAIN LOWER THAN THOSE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM.
  11. I'm not sure his answer was that simple but there was no clarity as to whether the price would lower. Debt repayment and a move toward a greener future was included in his responses to me. I posted his responses on this tread some time ago I think.

I completely agree I think with that train of thought, but in the same breath I as a consumer of electricity need to know when the price is expected to come down also assuming there is a chance that the MU are also thinking about buying more gas for the turbines and IOM Energy soon. It will be interesting to see what CURA decide the gas price for IOM Energy should be post July 2023. They will know the purchased price of the gas to be burned for the next six months. In other words the MUA give us general guidelines as to how they run their business and price us accordingly, CURA explain the pricing model in detail and supply evidence and justification for any rise or fall. Obe thing for sure is that we really need to hope for lower gas bills as the price of electricity will soon be tough to swallow..
  14. Is the next electricity price rise justified in only six weeks time? All we know is that the decision to raise the price of electricity on the island was taken when the wholesale price was approximately three times what it is now. In January 2023 the then MU Chair said in Tynwald that for the price to hold as it was at that time, the wholesale price would need to remain at about the 150 pence per therm range. Much has changed on the wholesale market since and there has been several stories in the UK media whereby it's expected energy prices will lower soon. I'm guessing that's both gas and electric, but not living there, I have more interest in what's happening here. I cannot help but think that the current MUA Chair is a bit quiet at the moment as we prepare to get royally stuffed with higher bills. Time to contact Manx Radio I think.
  15. Hi RR My claim is currently with the claim team. Whilst I was told initally the information I have stated before on here the update now is that senior management have contacted me and have asked me for a full rundown on what happened and to send in receipts. I think there has been a change of heart from the easyJet perspective. I had communication with them today again and my claim is being reviewed.

  17. Nightmare situation John. It makes me feel down because I can only try to understand the difficulty you are having because of your limited mobility. There really should have been an accommodation offer at least. Your situation reads worse than what happened to us. I hope you have an ok day today and you get home safe and sound tomorrow.
  18. Yes Sir. I explained to the representative from EJ tonight and he agrees that what is happening should not be happening (or so he tells me). He is referring my case to higher management because I told him that EJ are planting bear traps to force passengers into a situation to accept a very poor outcome to avoid becoming homeless for the night. I am not sure this outrageous situation is intentional, but I am having to fight now because I accepted EJS alternative fight option simply to get my family a bed for the night. The argument from EJ was that they had honoured their obligations but of course sometimes it's not that simple. They might like to think it is, but it isn't. Whatever way anyone looks at the situation, I am £400+ out of pocket and the situation was in no way caused by me. Once again I stress, much of what I'm pushing now is not just for myself, but for others whom for whatever reason may not be able to fight as hard as what sometimes I can and will. The Government cannot simply sit back in my opinion and pretend bad things are not happening regularly to the citizens of this great Isle on UK land. In my opinion of course.

  21. Thank you. It's very clear when you explain it like that. It's not so clear at the time though when the child is crying, the other one is stressed, both the wife and I are tired, the battery on the phone is low and clicking on flights just to find a bed for the night brings up zero results for several attempts. It's one of them I guess you'd need to be in that situation at that time. Sincerely thank you though for explaining. I'm working my way through the next part. Barry.
  22. I will make a prediction right here right now. Before two years have passed the MUA will be price regulated by CURA. I'm not gambling money, but the current situation likely comes in flout of unfair competition whereby IOM Energy are price checked twice a year and the MUA choose the 'suck it up buttercup' approach. That approach was fine and accepted when MG got away with it too years ago. My opinion now is that things have to change.
