I feel a total failure in life now, with my two bed, terraced, gentleman's residence! :(

How do you think I feel? I'm in a 2 bed ground floor man-flat.

Oh for the good old days when you could deck the arrogant little tossers 😆

Felt like that when I went to a local tv shop about a month ago and the bloke didn't know what a Portable was.

  3. To be honest, after asking the origional question, I didn't expect the thread to go like this. It's excellent. As an aside, I too used to call it Gansey beach @Declan, because that's what everyone called it. There is a close on the Ballafesson to Colby road called 'Carrick Bay View,' and in recent times, I've called the bay 'Carrick Bay.' What I find almost strange are the houses on Shore Road. Their addresses are Shore Road, Rushen. It's as if they haven't been designated a town, village or hamlet.

Yeah, the headland is Gansey Point, the mill is Gansey Pottery, the beach people would call Gansey Beach is actually Brewery Beach and the bay people would refer to as Gansey Bay is Bay ny Carrickey. Point being that Gansey Bay isn't really a real term even though lots of people use it.

I's assumed @roddershad asked the question knowing full well the answer.

I certainly did. I've lived all my 51 years down south and it just surprised me that 'Gansey Bay' was mentioned in a manifesto. I'd expect a prospective local MHK to know the correct name. Pedantic? Yes.

The residents of Laxey really need to get organised if this mess is to be sorted out. If they wait for the DOI, nothing will happen and they'll be flooded again. This could be the way forward for Manx politics; well organised pressure groups and their local authorities, forcing Government's hand on issues that need urgently addressing. Government is in a state of powerless paralysis; completely unable to make decisions or act on them because of the dead hand of unaccountable chief executives with their armies of managers; and local business interests blocking Government's every move.

Tonights weather forecast is for lots of standing water and the risk of flash flooding. Good luck Laxey, it could be a long night.
