  1. The Isle of Man got a load of publicity yesterday when the Prime Minister mentioned it twice I think, he said the Crown Dependencies were going to co-operate with the UK on who the people are who have companies investing in their areas.
  2. I think there is more to come over these papers, also if Cameron is publishing his tax returns, the rest of the UK Parliament will be under a obligation to as well. Corbyn is doing hisl, Pandora's Box is fully opened yet, the lawyers offices in Panama have been raided so what is there to be revealed yet.
  3. Ronan would be good at explaining to tv, he would really confuse them nasty tv reporters, his last speech on farming was mind boggling, every two or three words he said " You Know " those are the key words to bore the media.
  4. I think the worry is over, Sky Newspaper review last night with Andrew Pierce from the Daily Mail, and Kevin Maguire the Daily Mirror mentioned the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man as Tax havens. It was also on Sky News this morning, the news lady had a map behind her showing where these havens were, the Isle of Man was highlighted, now will that bring any more visitors.
  5. Is there any cases where the private householder refuses to pay it, there was talk about that when it was first introduced, the trouble is all Council/Commissioners tenants have no choice, it's put on the rent and rates automatically, thereby hitting the poorer section.
  6. So the Steam Packet want their monopoly protected by this User Agreement before they will invest in new/used ships, at the same time our Government won't let Ellan Vannin Line operate from Douglas, who, if allowed, will buy a ship to operate without any User Agreement. Something stinks here, just who are the investors in the Steam Packet?, doe's our Government or any of it's members have a pecuniary interest here, then surely they can't stop another shipping line from operating from any port in the Isle of Man, it's the people who should decide. Call a referendum on it.
  7. So Hamas has broken the truce again, so again, what does the world expect Israel to do?, but talking about TV channels being anti Israel, how about channel 4, they in one interview kept on about the people getting killed in Gaza, ignoring the Israeli representative questions on Hamas firing rockets into Israel trying to kill their citizens, all the channel 4 reporter could rabbit on about was why hit a UN school, he was told that Hamas positioned their rockets near the school, but he chose to ignore this. The thing that is forgotten is that Hamas have said they wish to wipe out the Israeli nation,
  8. I see Gawne has given another £50,000 away, with no political association to Gaza, and there were collections at the weekend in the streets for the same. Lets hope it doesn't end up in Hamas's hands, but to be honest, why are we getting involved, it would not have happened had Hamas not fired rockets into Israel in the first place, just what does the rest of the world expect Israel to do?, if the same people attacked the UK, America, or any other nation, would they just sit by and not retaliate, I don't think so, what did Bush say after 9/11, it wasn't " oh well these things happen, they must have been upset by something".
  9. It is not an either-or. There are many options in-between. For example - if every household were to pay an average of only £18 extra per week that would bring in £33 million. £2.60 per day. Averaged. It would not break the economy. I wonder how much a 2% income tax increase would bring in ? Seems like a good number. How is a person on a state pension going to pay £18 a week out of less than £200,some pensioners on Wednesday are down to their last few coppers after paying for their rent and rates, gas, electric, food, there is not much left for any personal items, people have to section their pension each week and put money away for when the bills come in like gas and electric, why don't those on this £600 a week pay three times that amount, that should sort it.
  10. Wow! Are you like, a million or something? Can you maybe describe what a tourist looked like for us? Yes I can describe what thousands of tourists look like, with 9 ships, and 4 airlines bringing them in every summer, and no I'm not quite reached a millon yet,but I was a teenager then, and every delivery to bakehouses was a bonus, the lovely bread and sticky buns, pies, and cream cakes, all tips. that would be the little blue Scammel artics which used to do the parcels/freight deliveries ? when there was an air terminal across the road with Hammil's (sp?) coaches doing airport runs for Silver City, Dan Air, Scottish Avaition, and the road services for BEA ! No before the Scammel's,they had Bedford flat trucks,[Just like Greengrass in Heartbeat],also there was an old Vulcan van,yes that's right a Vulcan before Startrek,Archie Curran drove it,the foreman Ike, had Black Diamond a great big horse pulling a cart, the horse could take the cart back at Christmas if the tips got a bit much,he also liked a pint outside of the Dogs Home.

  12. What was the one on Broadway? Used to love their pies. I think that was Cannells shop which had the bakery in Duke Street, the best pies I can remember were Porky Grays in Strand Street,I remember delivering to them when I worked on the Steam Packet lorries in the 50s,it was wonderful to get a few with the fresh hot jelly poured in them, trouble is as soon as you bit into them all the juice ran over your face, happy days.
  13. There were quite a few bakeries in Douglas, and everyone of them did good business, with a population of around 44,000 on the Island it was amazing really how many there were. Manx Co-op West View,Quirks back Strand Street,Cowins Hill Street Lane,Elders Kensington Avenue,Crossleys Prospect Hill,Cannells Duke Street,Oates and Quayles Harwarden Avenue,Caleys shop Barrack Street,In Strand Street there were two Pork Butchers who made wonderful pies,Porky Gray was one,all of them the products were always fresh and no E factors ETC,sadly now all gone.
  14. Looking at these lists convinces me that if everybody on this Island could vote for every MHK instead of just in their own area,we could eliminate the 10 most disaproved first of all, then the rest would go out on the percentages,in other words a mass clear out,I have always said that we should have a vote for every candidate standing, because they always go on about the politicians have to represent all of us on the world stage, not just parish pump,I know that this would mean Turkeys voting for an early Christmas, but anybody opposed to this must be very afraid they wouldn't get in,it's the local parish pump gang who elect these goons every time,so this election let's ask that question about changing the system of voting,it's useing that old word they like to use themselves so often,DEMOCRACY.
  15. I got a loaf at Tesco's yesterday for 60p WHOWWWWWWWWW
