  1. Is this vessel related? Judging by the TT access road, it's mid to late 80's. TBT.
  2. Don't know if he owned it but certainly had involvement with it when it was the Anchor pub. Before Woodford's timeI think Pacini group were involved in a watersports venture there and tried to make it a sandy beach by depositing tons of the stuff from elsewhere. I think Douglas Corpy sold it late 70's/early 80's to the guy who built the massive catamaran down there about 1985. >...to the guy who built the massive catamaran down there about 1985. This snap from 1986. I think it was a guy called Keig who built it. Related to the Keig's photographers in town? TBT.
  3. Yes, and also the Scarlett and Santon Scooter Scrambling Club - Secretary Steve Stansfield - who aim to resurrect the Hillclimb event of the early 70's. I can remember my elder sister walking us TBT's there across the Pully golf course, past Kewaige school, up past to the 'real' Fairy Bridge, down to the tin shed that sold pop at Oakhill bridge and then along Marine Drive (before the stabit yard was comissioned) down to the Glen. About a 7 mile round trip from Braddan. It really doesn't seem like 45 years ago. Time and Tide... TBT. Edit:sp.
  4. Yanks first to throw a punch. This is going to be financially painful and may yet bring more to light. One wonders if, as in some durisdictions road fund licence is based on emissions, could affected Governments sue for back tax? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-35227435 TBT.
  5. > we simply do not have the 21 million required for another rolls royce scheme... I'm concerned the cost of the enquiry, delays and non ordering of the currency is going to exceed the £21M. TBT.
  6. I'm no expert on vehicle emissions so I've entrusted the Governing body (whoever they are) and the manufacturer(s) to conduct the relevant test properly. In the case of VW this hasn't happened. The reasons for this wasn't an error or judgement or ignorance, it was malicious. VW have binned the CEO and admitted their breach of trust with their customers citing the certain engines (specifically diesel) affected across various model ranges including those used by other manufacturers (including Audi/Porsche/Seat/Skoda). And now they've also admitted to falsifying test results for their petrol engines. The result of those tests determined the amount of tax paid to the Government in road fund licence, and various 'Congestion Charges' throughout the world. So as a result, the Government has been deliberately defrauded of revenue by VW. Similarly the emissions figures have been set to prevent global warming, acid rain, premature deaths etc, and VW have deliberately set about a campaign to circumnavigate these regulations by abject dishonesty. Now BigC, I've seen some of your UTube posts and you don't give the impression of a technically incompetent nincompoop to me. But then again, justifying VW's behaviour by suggesting that others may be similarly guilty, indicates to the contrary. TBT.
  7. Gasoline (petrol) engined vehicles also involved in the 'Great VW Scandal'. VW admit they've been falsifying records involving CO2 emissions and fuel economy data on their gasoline models as well as NOx emissions on their diesel models. Upwards of 800K gasoline vehicles involved worldwide. As CO2 emissions determine road fund licence charges in some countries, who pays the 'back tax', vehicle owner or manufacturer? TBT. Edit: sp.
  8. Now it seems VW are cutting their expenditure in the wake of the scandal. Affected Club are self-owned Wolfsburg of the Bundesliga (German Federal League), who had planned a new training facility at a cool £30M. http://www.postbulletin.com/sports/national/soccer/vw-fallout-wolfsburg-postpones-planned-training-center/article_4966301d-1aeb-5b0a-a8b5-10aeedf7a7c8.html The costs set aside by VW for the Emissions Cheating fiasco are in the region of £6.5 billion. TBT.
  9. Looks like VW are the 1st manufacturer to be accused of cheating the emissions test in the US. Speculation has it that the fines could run into $'s Billions as it has 11 million affected vehicles under scrutiny. What say any other manufacturers recall their cars for a 'software upgrade' to eliminate any damning evidence? VW CEO Wintercorn to resign? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/industry/11881819/Volkswagen-live-VW-issues-profit-warning-sets-aside-6.5bn.html Shame, I was about to consider a Polo diesel myself. TBT.
  10. It's a question of trust. Sure some are ill disciplined whose owners aren't aware of the potential for harm, but one just weighs the benefits against the risk. And thankfully I've never had a dog injured by a child in 5 decades. TBT.
  11. Is it an option to go as foot passenger or fly and hire a car across? TBT.
  12. All the numbers in the left column are with rice. And in the right column, with chips. TBT.
  13. On the other hand...their engineers are superb. I've seen the damage 1st hand and it is extensive. The main problem apart from manufacturing the parts for the repairs is removing and installing the kit in an underwater environment. So full marks to the diving team as well. Take it as read that those engineers/technicians on the ground are working tirelessly - there no 'Smartphoners' in the workshops. None with an MBE and probably none on the photographs in next weeks Courier. And I've just seen (17:00, Fri) Mannanan entering Douglas harbour, back from sea trials. TBT.
  14. Skelly, does anybody think he has the business acumen to be trusted with franchising the TT?[/background][/size] No. Because Skelly is a gold-plated, Grade A, twat. Not that Quayle is any better, but could you just imagine what the Health Service would've ended up as if Lol had got his 'heart's desire' and been promoted into it? Quayle has to get the hip waiting list under control and Lol has to franchise the TT before September '16. No excuses. TBT.
  15. >...why do you think someone bought the shares at that price? Because John Whittaker was also in on the deal and they were bamboozled by his proven track record in business. Certainly not because anybody at DED has the business acumen. I mean, Lol (no pun intended) Skelly, does anybody think he has the business acumen to be trusted with franchising the TT? TBT.
