  1. I think Manx Radio could do a good job with less people. In that respect it is a bit over-manned and civil servantish. And when some of them went from being paid staff to being contract I believe the hourly rate offered was one that couldn't be refused. Kerchunk and all that. How many people staff 3fm? Anyway, I like the Manxie fella who does the Sunday night programme, he's Manxie without being affected, theatrical or smug about it.
  2. Did I hear correctly on Manx Radio today that Buster said he was a democratic right through to the centre of his heart. Well I'll be blowed. That said, something that he did say that made sense was that if Kate Beecroft had had one of the more experienced MLCs in the Health Department then things might have been very difference. As he said, "5 newbies against the civil service -believe you me, I know who's going to come out the winner."
  3. I know of a case where a doctor told a woman, who had previously had miscarriages, that she urgently needed to have an abortion otherwise she or the child or more likely the two of them would die. The woman was a catholic and said she would not have an abortion. It was difficult but they both survived. The child being born at less than 2lbs, and although struggled went on to live a good long life. The last 70 or so on ther Isle of Man.
  4. When taking your guests for a 'something different' day, a trip round the Ramsey charity shops ends a great day out after going to Jurby Junk.
  5. Hah hah! I didn't realise it had become a 'news' item on Manx Radio Mandate. The guy had some good points to make though. /country yokel voice on Hey fella, stirred up a nice little hornets nest though yessir.
  6. It sounds like a caricature and as such should be applauded as a bit of a grin, but the advert is intended to be a serious Manx accent. Which makes it even funnier fella.
  7. No. The Manx Radio advert is spoken by the greatest living Manxmen, in the world, ever, John 'Dog' dog dog Callister. I know that because he came on straight away to tell everybody. And that is how he speaks all the time he says. And that is true Manx. And as Chris Williams said, he is the Manx Bard - Official. Well as far as I am concerned the advert is like a Gaiety Theatre Isle of Man fringe Young Farmers pantomime act of a yokel Manx Accent, wth an over-abundance of 'Yessirs' and plenty of 'Fellas' (a recent addition to the 'Manx' vocabulary btw). By chris' yessa, this Islan' is gettin' desperate for it's identity by the minute. Fella'.
  8. Excellent Mannin Line today. Chris Williams stood in for Roger Watterson. One of the first callers was saying how the Manx Language should be allowed to fade away. He made some good points, especially regarding the Costain's Manx Radio advert, which I find embarrassing too. Some other good callers too (just doing a Listen Again), a bit like Manx Forums for the airwaves.
  9. And Tynwald Day is just round the corner. There must be a few topics come out of that.
  10. Justr turn on the TV for any of these awards ceremonies or something and you'll see Emily playing
  11. You can't get a ticket because all the civil servants have been given any spares.
  12. All investment was in Port Erin when the Breakwater was built and it caused quite a north-south divide, and not only in the House of Keys. When the breakwater was wrecked (twice?) you could hear the northern sniggers from Bradda Head. Could the breakwater be rebuilt or is nature just too much for modern technology?
  13. He certainly has inordinate support on Facey. People seem to love a villain, as long as it doesn't involve children and morris dancers, (or whatever that phrase is.)
  14. So whats the chance of rebuilding Port Erin breakwater and doing something wothwhile and interesting with the old Marine Biological station other than Dandara/Hartford flats (rhetorical question, but hey..)
  15. According to Howard Quayle the electorate aren't bothered about things like LegCo and Lisvane. That really does show how out of touch the man is. There have been plenty of contributors on Manx Radio Talking Heads/Mannin Line who are interested and are probably more aware than Quayle himself, judging by his interview with Lisvane when he was here.
  16. Hey Buster has been on Talking Heads just now. Apparently he phoned Whitehall direct to find out what has been going on with Brexit and what it will mean to Isle of Man. I'm not so sure if he wouldn't do a better job than Howard Quayle and all his jaunts with entourage to Brexitville
  17. Just listening to some of the debate in Tynwald. Does Geoff Corkish (MLC I notice) face fart all the time? Is it some sort of tourettes that makes him forever come out with shite sotto voce?
  18. The TT is gaining popularity worldwide. Are our hometown boys up to it? They were gently manoeuvred away from the TT Launch presentation (not saying that is a good thing but there is now less references to wanking, and less implied egging on for the boys to use naughty language)
  19. The next generation mightnot be using metals. Some of the new gels look encouraging. .
  20. It's a good comment. It takes someone like Guy Martin to support them to provide impetus. John McGuinness likes 'em too. I look forward to the day there is a two lapper, with a battery change in the pits. The Isle of Man needs to shout louder about what is happening here. Oh, by the way, I nearly got laughed off a building site for carrying an electric screwdriver in my tool bag (about 40 years ago). There's not a joiner worth his salt doesn't have an electric screwdriver these days (and a battery powered saw and arc lights...etc_)
  21. Maybe if theyjammed an ice lolly stick in the spokes it would sound like a motorbike.
  22. The electric bikes are the most amazing piece of motorcycle machinery to hit the TT course and by implication the world, since the Britten. Unfortunately views are polarised with so many folk bedded in tradition. Maybe if they plumed some sort of electric e-cigarette type Castrol R then some of the traditionalists would shut up and see what is happening.
