Friend of mine is a retired American doctor. He told me in America if you are sick and poor you will die as you won’t get medical intervention or if you do it’s rationed and hard to get ( there are some charity medical facilities but nowhere near enough). Old and poor , the same. The UK does not need or want the American model of health care. It’s horrendous. Fixing the NHS is the only solution but how in gods name you do that is anyone’s guess. But even in its current perilous state its streets ahead on the USA model.

No iPhones then. Ah the old days. The Glasgow cops were notorious for unwarranted violence against football fans they disapproved of. They used horses and batons. It was well brutal.

I think they raided that fund to build the new hospital? So the hospital cost nothing? Anyway , the fund will run out as more will be going out than in - unless higher and additional taxes are levied.

Of course it would be unpopular which is why it is never addressed although it needs to be and it’s not contributory in the true sense of the word. So we proceed to run out of money with state and CS pensions being the main causes. Only solution is higher and new taxes. That’ll be popular.

I think the NI thing is a bit of red herring , it’s just a tax as there is no ‘NI fund’. And billionaires should not be getting the state pension. Say you have a pension or investment income of X amount and it’s not difficult to figure that out then stop the state pension. Tax returns provide that data. I’d cap it at £50k a year. If you get that then no state pension. Bollocks to this I’ve paid in nonsense.

But there are a lot of recipients of the state pension who do not need it. That needs to be addressed , but yes it is difficult which is probably why it has not been done. I’d start with doctors , they must be minted!
