I agree there are limits to what is acceptable. Gratuitous postings of gore whether bike, car, war or crime related are never acceptable. They usually get taken down quickly in most cases when posted publicly. But we'll never be able to stop people from recording everything good or bad again. On balance I think there are more advantages than disadvantages.

I don't see mobile devices as an issue. Surely it allows a wider view of what actually happens during events and is therefore more likely to inform public opinion accordingly? Public opinion is then more educated. Few will argue that mobile devices capturing events such as crimes, police brutality, etc are a bad thing. There is an issue with doctoring of video, but that is where multiple views taken by different people from different perspectives helps.

I for one am grateful to anyone who volunteers to undertake these thankless positions and hold them to a lesser standard than MHKs/MLCs who do get paid. I am acquainted with a few of them and have no doubt they are trying to the best for Douglas even though I disagree with some of their decisions. The new bins rollout was not the greatest, but they are aware of the problems and have been working to resolve them as attested to by others here. I suspect things will be sorted in a relatively short time for 99%. Of course, @Reportage and his few mates will be attempting to resurrect this nothingburger early 2024 when everyone (except these diehards) has moved on to things that are actually relevant to their lives. Most already have barely noticing this blip.

Unfortunately, with all the abuse hurled at councillors who receive no salaries from these positions, you're going to see a lot more uncontested seats. Why would anyone with any sense take on these positions where you get abused whatever you do? These are not professional politicians with access to spin doctors and media coaches. And pissing off a minority is certainly better than pissing off the majority, so they got that bit right. None of the most vocal here would ever put themselves forward to show us how it all should be done. Amiright?

You know those gulls everyone loves to hate? Well they keep the longtail population well under control so little danger of it becoming a major problem anytime soon.

I've not played any of the videos and have no intention of wasting time doing so, but perhaps she's representative of most of the residents of Douglas. And no, I do not nor have ever worked for DBC or any government department. I, like most here, are also a retired geezer, but one who tries not to be a miserable git wherever possible. Life is too short and for all its troubles and foibles, there's nowhere else I'd rather be.

Actually, they are working in the interests of a significant majority of DBC ratepayers. I may not have a huge circle of friends in Douglas, but everyone I speak to is supportive - even those whose political persuasion would have led me to suspect otherwise. Suck it up buttercups, DBC is actually in tune with most of its residents. And realize that no matter what they do, haters gonna hate.

Tbf, Mannin Line comprises the same small group who whinge here in the evening and who have sod all else to do during the day.
