And also one probably triggers another because people start asking "Are you standing as well?".
I'd imagine that's quite a strong factor

The MLP really pulled out all the stops to get their member elected to Douglas South last year. Speaks volumes for its membership. Also speaks volumes of the leadership and leadership of its previous MHK and MLC, the ‘man you know and trust’. The LibLabVan party were the same, they couldn’t follow in the footsteps of their retiring party leader who was the previous MHK. I predict 0 seats this year for the Manx Labour Party. At least the LibLabVan Party will get at least 1 seat.
You know I never even thought about how the LibVan party leader was in Douglas South prior to the election.
If ever there was an example of how party politics isn't a thing on the IOM at the moment

Haven't read the thread and can't be arsed.
I assume it has already been posted who the MLP are putting forward for Douglas South?

Can't see the problem, rather than being a terrorist like her Sinn Fein counterparts, she is a victim of it. That would colour your views I'm sure.
I'm no expert on the troubles so don't want to put my foot in it but..... it wasn't all one way was it?

It’s the Manx Labour Party which has got itself into a tizzy over HRH The Chief Minister sending a note to the outgoing First Minister of Northern Ireland.
if you actually read my original opening post I mentioned the British Irish Council and how HRH The Chief Cuntstable Minister had met her.
Now HRH The Chief Minister has finished arse licking Arlene, its quite interesting that the Isle of Man Government hasn’t sent any aid to India. I’m surprised that the Starship Enterprise and the Chamber of Commerce haven’t arranged for our supply of COVID-19 vaccines, ventilators and oxygen supplies to leave in a Hercules plane direct from Reynoldsway. Perhaps the Indian HNWI could settle on the island, buying multi million pound mansions. Still it’s trickle down economics.
Reading this gave me a headache, surely just writing real things is easier than all this made up shite?

Some MHKs don't appear wholly enamoured with self-described 'geek' Speaker Watterson or perhaps the standing orders committee he chairs

It's not her role to make the final decisions though - those are political. A DoPH's role is as you say behind the scenes in providing that advice, but as civil servants they then have to defend what decisions are made by the government, no matter how much or how little their advice has been taken used.
This is something we have seen constantly in the UK over the last year, with the health professionals having to make the best possible scientific case for whatever nonsense the politicians come up with.
They must be looking over at the DOI with envy

Here's the only declared candidate - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edwin_Poots
I've often thought that NI politics had all the granny-farming, jobs for the boys issues that Manx politics has but with added religious madness thrown in.

the dual threat approach was mooted there - it's just pontification at present but I found it interesting

I suspect her replacement is going to be worse.
I believe the current theory is to replace with 2 leaders in order to present a more acceptable face of the DUP to Westminster while the more.... err... traditional side is represented in Stormont

MLP trying to stand out as being different and more towards the woke side of left wing?
It could be a strategy to avoid being another traditional entity that blends in with the mix of other politicians although.... Labour is quite a traditional organisation

The MHK who was department member for Transport up until last year?

The answer does not give any detail of the fleet size so you have no idea how many buses they are dividing by or if the total fleet includes all the mini buses they have or all the support vehicles for the buses and the railways, the railways used to fill up using the bus facility.
So, not surprisingly, the answer actually tells you very little, they could be dividing the total fuel cost by 60 or 200 or any number
in isolation it's not a great question to be fair

is it because there are so many static costs? people getting paid whether they're working or not?
and whilst there may be some savings in running costs I suspect there are a number of items that have a very short shelf life that will need replacing whether used or not?
not to mention the PPE costs....
