  1. Where has he said that? In the Pinewood shepparton press release and release to shareholders it links the deals. It does say 'not required' but they are part of the same deal: http://www.bloomberg.com/article/2012-06-06/aTSq395z3ON8.html He may have done, but he still had to take it to tynwald and tynwald approved the investment. It is not one mans whim as you claim, but a decision that was democratically reached by that court. I don't personally. I've said multiple times in this thread that I think that funding would be better spent on island. I just think you're being unfairly critical on some aspects based on your understanding (or lack of) of the deal, what you think it should be and what it actually is. I don't think we should have ever begun the fat fiddle in the first place, it took the piss, and it's landed us in very hot water. This follow up deal is a more graceful exit in many ways from the original poor plan. And I maintain, you're not talking like for like. If the government wants to invest in agriculture, it doesn't do that with an investment manager either. You're completely on the wrong track in your criticism in my view.
  2. It clearly is linked to the media fund, given pinewood are the managers and the fund transferred at the same time. A hedge isn't accurate, it looks to me like a complementary deal to extend the benefits. If the UK film industry and pinewood do well, we share in that success. If it doesn't, well our limited exposure limits the loss. No, but that's not what happened. The members department formulated the deal and he took it to tynwald. It was voted on.
  3. Are they? I see the Treasury minister responding to questions about the share price when asked. Is it wrong? It's an indication. It might not be as close to what a high volume share would achieve, but that's the nature of the beast. How else do you propose it's valued? Again, you keep comparing it to a managed investment in the stock market. It isn't that. If we wanted it to be, there's ample people who would provide those services. This, as far as I understand it, isn't an investment designed simply to make money. You repeatedly judge it on those grounds, and compare it with other instruments and find it lacking. It will always, as it isn't one of those instruments. It's an attempt to diversify into films while meeting the criticisms and limitations of the original arrangement without entirely giving up on the concept. That you agree or disagree with the goal of the investment is valid. That you expect it to perform in the same way as a traditional vehicle is bollocks. It isn't that. Get over it.
  4. Right, but these aren't that kind of investment. The entire crux of your issue seems to be that these aren't .FTSE100 style shares. The government has those kinds of investments. This isn't it. They're not going to have the same attributes. They do have risks and benefits that the other investments don't have. It's a diversification. Get over it.
  5. Which is true of most assets. You can get a valuation but the only way to know what it's actually worth is to sell it.
  6. And yet similarly low percentage of trades vs total market cap lets people judge the property market. The price is a reasonable indicator, it's what we paid when we bought them more or less and it's doubled. No, we probably wouldn't get the top price if we dumped them all, but it's a better indicator than nothing. The share price has doubled, I can see why that is upsetting for crabs and piss chippers, but that's how it is. I'm sure it'll drop soon and you can all delight in the failure once more.
  7. Nonsense, there were two 5,000 share trades and a 10,000 in the last days trading. If they're trading at that price, it's a pretty good indication the value of the holding has gone up. Bloody miserable chip pissers. If it was trading at half the price you'd be dancing for fucking joy. I suppose this deal has one benefit; it gives obsessive bad news hunting neigh sayers like newsnight something to do.
  8. It's a publicly trading company, we wouldn't have to wait for a single buyer. The current price has a pretty large volume of trades.
  9. Are you saying none of the NI fund should be invested at all? We'd lose out bigtime if that was the case. Governments must 'gamble' with taxpayers money all the time, grants, supporting business, development funds, investments..
  10. That's really good news for our investment. I don't particularly agree with being invested in Pinewood but with our 20% holding now almost doubled in price, this expansion and a hit film it's looking promising. It'd be good to get some solid figures from Govt about how much it's returning.
  11. Well that went well.. The last paragraph is the key point for me. They've had a punt at films on the island and it may or may not have worked out or been entirely fairly managed. What's without doubt is that we need investment in our own industries, and I'm not seeing the benefit of investing in Pinewood having been in it for some time. That cash would be far better invested in growing local media.

    Mountain Watch

Very good I suffered a stapled tyre this morning. Can't be certain it was malicious, but it was on a route we use a lot as it's just round the corner from a meeting spot.

How very dare anyone disrupt you? Not being able to use ones car for a short time must have been horrific, harrowing and traumatic. The organisers should provide counselling for all involved.
  16. Be better when they take the crap out of the side of the road. There's all sorts of barriers and stuff that mean you have to go into the car lane to get around. You'd be safer staying in the car lane rather than bouncing in and out like you have to now.

There's quite a few really smart TGC's on tablets, solforge is one I particularly like but agree Hearthstone will probably rule on tablets too. The pace suits me, as you can do other things while a game is on
