Not that it really matters one jot but you started this grammar criticism Whilst is just another way of saying while.

PPE is what a gentleman studies other than classics It prepares you for politics or the civil service or so they tell you when you sign up, unless you only get a 3rd in which case it prepares you to be a bitter twisted drunkard type person in other words a journalist
Thomas Jefferson
So you're totally unemployable then. Just one small problem with your post............ I am not unemployed. And I don't want to be "employable". I consider that a compliment.
kellyiom
Quite right, TJ. The rest of us really should stop taking a sideswipe at the civil service - no matter how irrelevant - in almost every thread! Yeh, because the civil service is totally out of place in a thread called "making a stand against the Isle of Man Government". Let's not forget that Government has its paws in absolutely everything on this island. It would be extremely difficult to not mention them at least once in a thread on literally any conceivable topic about the island. I challenge you to create such a thread where no link can be found. Just on this topic, I've been in the 'anti govt bloat' camp however looking at France, they also seem to have a high proportion of state-funded employees. Their experience during the crisis period has been less traumatic than say, Spain or Italy arguably. I understand there are many other factors and they still have that adjustment to be made...but does the mantra of less government need revisiting? Is it just that structurally, our Govt needs to spend smarter and more flexibly, not just less? Must add, I haven't really researched this, just a thought. Also..re our overall budget, I think Cornwall as a unitary authority, rural, relatively high property value, has a budget of £1.1bn. Is this a fair proxy for our situation? (obviously, adjusted for per capita)
