Minnie
I heard this "news" item on the ITV News at lunchtime and wondered what others thought about it. I'm personally shocked that this happens and that children are taken away from a loving home environment just because a parent is deemed to be "intellectually slow". http://www.itv.com/news/index_596941.html
Darth Vader
And the Social Services Minister refuses to be interviewed. Another Labour Government cock up. Whenever a politician or any official refuses to be interviewed it means one thing. GUILTY!
Slim
..or that he's too busy or not well versed enough in the individual cases to comment. "Campaigners say such parents need more support rather than having their children taken away. " seems the most sensible approach to this though. Darth Vader
The Minister would have more respect to be interviewed and admit she needed to investigate further. I agree there should be more support for the parents. It is so cruel to take these kids from the people they look up to and love. But in all honesty does anyone think social services gets it right? They seem to take kids into care when there is no need yet leave children with parents who then kill them. Our professional do-gooders eh!

ButterflyMaiden
But in all honesty does anyone think social services gets it right? I think the problem with Social Work, Vader, is that it is very difficult to get right. Its one of those areas where they are dammed if they do and dammed if they dont. Rog
I’m not the most liberal with my opinions but in this case I am saddened to think that a couple who by all accounts were providing a good, clean, safe, and loving home for their kids, should have them taken ‘into care’ whilst at the same time gutter trash are supported (have vast amounts of tax payers money lavished on them) and allowed to keep their foul brood and bring them up to be the yobs that are the cause of so many of the problems we face today. OK, there is a point at which a line needs to be drawn where people who are of lower intelligence (to hell with PC speak) can not provide a safe and appropriate home in which a child can be nurtured and brought up, but from what I’ve seen give a person power and they want to use it and that certainly applies to ‘social workers’ – another description that really describes a social police and warden force. Darth Vader
It is unfortunate that there are some social workers who seem to see 'demons' everywhere and take an unnecessarily heavy-handed approach while, at the other end of the range, there are those who totally fail to recognise the signs of abuse and neglect. I'd like to believe that these cases are comparatively rare, and that most social workers do theie jobs efficiently and well but, even if that is the case, it's no comfort to the families whose lives are often devastated by these 'errors of judgement.' The thing is the cases of social workers getting it wrong are too frequent. Thank God they are not in charge of aircraft. But they are in charge of the welfare of those who cannot protect themselves....children. This whole case smacks to me of Nazism. Think about it. Nu Labour!??? (more like national socialism 1939) We still await the Minister giving a response. And do you know why she wont? Well it is because she and Blair will not admit they have F****d up social services after 8 years in power. And they cannot hang the blame on tories anymore so they bury their heads in the sand. Mind you they got that lesson from Ned. IOM Child Care Enquiry on going...
