Triskel
Apologies if this is/was general knowledge but the excellent Curry Lounge as I remember and recently named Spice Lounge on the corner of Walpole Ave. appears to have closed overnight. We made a phone booking yesterday (Sat) for a table Sunday evening 6pm.The chap who took the booking made no indication of any problems, future bookings etc and even asked for a contact no. (which you would assume meant they may not have known it was closing overnight).Anyhow we arrived at 6pm and the entire kitchen on the left has been ripped out and half of the tables still ready to be used and half in a right mess with all sorts of containers/cleaning products etc strewn on the floor. One table even has about a dozen poppadums on it! Seems strange to be out so quickly and to continue taking bookings? La Piazza saved the day and confirmed Pizza Hut are moving in. Enjoyed Curry/Spice lounge and nice staff.Hope it wasn't too much of a surprise for them! Pizza Hut??!!….no thank you.
Tarne
Oooh, thanks for letting me know. That's an odd one for the staff not knowing!
Slim
Pizza hut under an Italian restaurant? You couldn't make it up.
Digga
Thought these are the same people that own the Curry Club opposite shopshite in castletown.....
Lonan3
I am not making any assertions but... there have been at least two occasions in the past when local Indian restaurants 'disappeared' overnight when the VAT inspectors came to call. Lxxx
Let's hope the people of the IoM vote with their wallet and continue to go upstairs to La Piazza for a pizza and not to another large, corporate chain the island doesn't need.
Triskel
Agreed support La Piazza rather than some nasty fast-food franchise chain. The staff are attentive and friendly and great food.Simple.Same with Curry Lounge, very nice staff and with it being a BYO, very reasonable prices. Yes hope it's nothing sinister but La Piazza knew it was to be Pizza Hut.
The Dalby Spook
The Curry House was not my fave with identical curries, weird unisex toilets and an abrasive draught from the front door that would render your food cold in seconds. Nom de plume
BYO (grog) is a rarity on the Manx food scene - a great shame.
war baby
Sad to see it close. I rather liked the staff there. Agreed, we don't need any more franchised standardised pizzas, thanks. I vote for La Piazza, Alessandro's too.
