Wouldn't be a surprise.

I was told today that a senior manager recently referred to some frontline staff (who are considered to be vital to the standard of care and patient safety currently provided) as 'non essential' - and we all know what that means.

It's not really a surprise, but it looks like many services will be back to bare bones a lot quicker than even I'd have guessed. The scalpel is becoming an axe. Expect more adjustments to 'targets'. Don't get sick and you'll be fine.

The problem maybe that the scalpel or axe intended to trim the fat from the meat may be being used by the fat itself; on the meat and bone, so's to speak..?

In which case we'll know what we'll be left with because we've seen it before with DOI etc...

What happened last time a lib van member got a department?

Loads of unpopular money savings and an eventual resignation from government, to sit defeated and flat by the wayside as the rot continues.

Kate is fast becoming the new Peter Karran, being set up to fall in the wake of others useless activities.

It’s the typical problem throughout Government. Ask civil servants what they think they should do to save money and you get back a load of fucking clueless idiotic things because most of them are fucking clueless idiots. One Minister can’t control a Department like the DHSC when it has hundreds of useless, clueless, pricks running round every day trying not to arrive at the obvious solution to saving money - which is that there are too many useless, clueless, pricks employed in Government. Yet the Minister cops all the flack for arseholes they can’t even sack.

Eh?

What do you mean?

People moan when government provide the manpower and moan when it's contracted out to the private sector.

but they expand management and contract those at the coalface.  it needs to be the other way round.

For every government outsource (or whatever the word might be these days) there's a fat cat civil servant or two spending their time on the internet looking for holiday bargains and the like, and dreaming of their big pension day.

I suppose it will all boil down to

1. the same number of management/CS trying to run a hospital,

with,

2. next to no frontline services

3. outsourcing to private contractors

4. wondering why they still haven't reduced the overall costs

Excellent...
