  1. Some people like shops like that, it's part of the appeal. Look how long Jurby Junk and Moochers thrived. Olde Worlde places where you could meander. But isn't it strange that all these business closures/reductions in hours that we are now seeing are all citing similar causes, some after being in business for long periods of time?
  2. How did we ever manage previously when we had people to paint, maintain and repair? Rather than layers of management instead? Wait until a child slices their hand open on one of those rusty edges. The response will be, rip the equipment out, H&S risk, non-compliant etc and we can't afford to replace it now either. But we'll still have the management layers.
  3. Don't mention Cube either. Or Vision 9. Or World TT Series. Or fairy houses.
  4. The Stella's of St Paul's Sq. Hefty rent and the business rates wouldn't have helped, smaller businesses aren't as well equipped as the bigger ones to handle the pressures now being faced.
  5. All these things and the play equipment could be more affordable if we hadn't immersed our world into a sea of "required" administration and management.
  6. I'm not sure if the growth of the PS is the PS out of control or some sort of hare-brained attempt to grow the population or at least keep it at economical critical mass. If it's the latter then it's a huge gamble using the reserves and taxation to fund it IMHO.
  7. Surely IoMG could just pass legislation allowing for such vehicles to be seized and crushed? It's common practice in the UK now for offending vehicles to meet this fate.
  8. There's at least 3 or 4 PS unions representing PS workers on the Island, Unite (the old T&G), Prospect and there's maybe 2 more representing the medical and health professions but the names escape me. There's also the Govt. Officer's Association which is the local CS body.
  9. That's always going to be a given, there are a large number of people for whom it is their raison d'étre and there's never any doubt that it would be announced that the shows were going to be a huge success and a huge amount of feedback gratefully received, all of which will be taken back and thoroughly analysed with a view to be fitted into policy for the future. But not policy now 🤭
  10. It's to force the prices up in keeping with everything else.
  11. Terminating employment within PS is a complete nightmare, courtesy of the T&Cs that PS has bestowed upon itself, that's why you don't see it very often. Procedure has to be followed to the letter and dot, compensation awarded and any PS union representation dealt with as well. Few PS managers have the inclination, experience or skills to do this and it's simply not part of the PS ethos to do it. You have to have done something seriously, seriously wrong to justify being fired or it'll just be quietly accommodated and smoothed over and forgotten about as always. Govt can afford to do it.
  12. But fear ye not. Yet another strategy is at hand with an "extensive outreach" to ensure prosperity. Plus, any businesses facing "operational difficulties" can be directed towards Business Isle of Man (who can doubtless administer the Last Rites...)
  13. And the £250k cost of it has just been beaten hands down, 'twould appear. Any advance on £1.9M...?
  14. They can still impact the free houses who are "economically obliged" to get stock from them. Standard stuff like Carling that can be bought for £2.75 a pint in the UK is touching £5 a pint by the time H&B have got it here and sold it on. I've seen posters on here describing H&B as having a superb business model. Yes, if you want to drive it into the ground in favour of haulage and convenience stores.
  15. Extraction still legal for domestic and commercial use but being phased out apparently
  16. There's good callout money for retained firefighters? A couple of months ago I was a witness to a collision between a car and a fortunately uninjured pedestrian, it was me who summoned the Police and advised the ECR of the circumstances during the summoning. No fewer than 4 blue light Police vehicles responded.
  17. And then where does the Chinese Supermarket send it...?
  18. Yup, I alluded to this a couple of months ago on the Alf Cannan thread
  19. What amazes me is the regular denials and deflection on the forum that the breaking is usually met with until it becomes undeniable...
  20. Juan Turner vents his opinions on the roadshows on FB (apologies for formatting). It could be argued that he knows, he was in there for long enough...
