  1. I was in Europe a couple of weeks ago visiting friends and family (2 countries). They are quite happy to be in the EU and feel quite happy in its future. Moreover, they regard the UK as a laughing stock following Brexit, in no uncertain terms. "Insular, backward and xenophobic" were just three of the adjectives used, this by people with close UK and family connections.
  2. Middle of last month, I got from the Sea Terminal to Manchester Airport for less than £35. £26.50 to Liverpool (Manannan, footpassenger, single fare) and £7 for a train ticket from Lime St to the Airport, booked via Trainpal. I walked from the pier head to Lime St.
  3. Don't forget, only a short while ago we were informed that they needed another 54...
  4. There's a lot more than 10 doing that in DEFA...
  5. I've sailed on MXN a couple of times, she's a fine, well appointed vessel IMHO. Whether size-wise she is what we needed is another question. We might have been better served with 2 BMC sized plodders and ditch the expense of the fast craft which it's rumoured the Steamie wanted to do if they weren't hobbled by the Agreement.
  6. A very stiff brush with a very strong light attached to it needs applying to RTC/town hall matters since 2014 (and possibly a couple of years before too). And are the 2023 Accounts publicly available yet?
  7. But no small part of £100M has been paid to people who would claim to be experts on such matters; and they still haven't got it right, a ship has to be modified now as an afterthought and it would appear that blame for further delays thus created is now being laid at the door of the shipowners. You couldn't make it up. It's just one big piss take. Disrobe yourself of as much responsibility as you can.
  8. I love this bit, "Inflationary Price Hikes" by communications providers to blame. But no mention of hikes in charges and taxes by Govt being "inflationary" of course. Entirely different things, entirely....
  9. Perhaps they could have assembled a team of "Upland Rangers" to do that sort of menial stuff...
  10. The Public Sector trough is both plentiful and bountiful. The culture of expectancy and entitlement is strong. Because nobody has done anything to change it, despite Alf's edicts on culture following Ranson.
  11. Spar outlets have wheeled out last year's leftover Cube tat again as well I see, not looked at the prices yet though.
  12. There's a rumour in the town (to be confirmed) that the planning application for 150+ new houses on the greenfield site across the Bride Rd from Royal Park has been given the go ahead. Can anybody confirm?
  13. In which case it could have been identified much earlier and he could have been managed out, as would have been almost certain in the private sector. Were it not for HR inertia and cast iron CS T&Cs which make it virtually impossible to empty such cases.
  14. Or swayed by a groundless and unrealistic proposal for the transport requirements of 500,000 visitors a year by 2032?
  15. Given recent reported and ongoing events, that number may reduce....?
  16. Call yourself David Ashford and you'll get anything you want for free....
  17. The "multiplier effect" was an invention of the time of Eddie Teare's tenure as Treasury Minister. History has left he and his statements of that period with very little fiscal credibility.
  18. Adam Smith says, "It's vital, me and a whole bunch of me mates' non-jobs rely on this. But these are DEFA figures for something else, we haven't invented our own yet".
  19. "Culture" instilled. This is where MHKs get it from too.
  20. Some claimed that the prices last year would be less than the year before too....
  21. That would have been Crazy Dave during his globe-trotting....
  22. Gawne had a remarkable ability to convince Tynwald to part with large sums of money on very tenuously predicated reasons. "No work would begin until a suitable agreement has been reached for its long-term use by the IoMSPCo"..... Is this the agreement that's currently being thrashed out now?
