  1. A folded piece of kitchen towel placed in the clipped bag and will give a couple more days acceptable freshness.
  2. I recently tested a wide range of whiskies against a supermarket brand for colour, scent and taste. The final result was that I was escorted out of Lake road Tesco and I'm in front of the Beak on Monday..😬

  7. The winding is the stator, [not moving] the squirrel cage is the rotor, [spinning] of an ac motor, DOL or Star/Delta.

  9. Last week in in Tesco, my Trolley dash came to Β£145.30, I canceled the sale, put the goods back into said trolley and went through self checkout with it, that got it down to Β£48.60, a smashing result I think πŸ™„

Firm closing--ish, 35 years in the Peter Luis building, relocating to---maybe internet sales only? Rising lease costs plus possible plans for fast food type outlet on the ground floor seems to be the decision maker, a shame to see it go πŸ˜’

The chippy on Melbourne street was operated by my ould Auntie, Molly Bridson, later on it was Henry Cambell's chippy, for the last maybe 20 years it has been a private dwelling. Henry had the chippy in Falcon st prior, this became the City cottage, ending as James Wong.s, both fine takeaways, miss them much.

Bathurst st as a takeaway venue was so busy at one time, between 09.30 and 13.00 the white van fleet [WV] was in, no spare parking for a quarter mile it seemed, then it all changed, the cute chippy didnt take off, neither did the european takeaway, v good one IMHO , the Asian takeaway never seemed to open, Mr B's held out untill RB closed, the WV Workers transfered to Shoprite, Victoria road, Logans on Bucks road and of course Peel road KFC etc grabbed a lot of the business-- a moveable feast indeed

Pork is Haram in Muslim culture, Beef {Dana} is Halal, if correctly blessed.
  17. Any armed officer turn out? I mean there is a remote chance of eyes being put out , best be safe, get the ballaclava bobbies on it.πŸ‘
  18. I thought a work permit was needed to be able work on the IOM, is one needed to reside here?
  19. There is housing there already, and an apartment complex with below road level parking, a pub, a Railway station and various businesses, all on the level of the Lake road, you build to your enviroment, for that area lifting the levels with infill would work, lest we forget North Quay was not always that level, it was raised to the Quay side walll level.
  20. It is a curious area, I worked at Manx Ices on the Lake road and we prepped for high spring tides with sandbagging. The Peel Road factory was along the river also but raised and the river canalised as John Wright says so no problem Across on the Old Castletown Road side, Qualtroughs, a shipbuilder converted to a Mineral Water manufacturer, there being opposite a well souce of quality water quite unlike the rest on the Island, I recall the pump field as we called it,from there they pumped under the road and bottled. The pump enclosure can be seen low right.
  21. There was a stream running behind the Garages in Hills Meadow, behind where Robinsons was, parallel to the main road, a scrap yard I think now, it ran under the access ramp. Those units below Peel road would flood up to 2 foot, I was involved raising the height of the electrical outlets to 3 feet in my brothers welding shop. [late 70's]
  22. Hence the name Lake Road, in the right conditions it would flood up as far as the Quarter bridge, big tides meet melt watet / heavy rainfall, it still occurs to a degree.
