  1. I’ve been on both sides of many “Awards” events. In the main, they are a construct to give the host some PR and a free piss up for all their staff by giving a bunch of mugs with huge egos and deep pockets the “opportunity” to sponsor an award/several tables in exchange for a pretty reasonable chance they will then “surprise, surprise” win a worthless accolade and some resin thing on an plinth to sit in their reception area gathering dust..

Would be interesting to 'grade' their manifestos. What they said v what they've done.

My two were sorting the sewerage into Peel Bay..although to be fair there’s probably more shit coming out of some MHKs mouths at present.

  3. Ok, so its a tad over 2 years.

Are you content with your elected representatives after 2 years in the job? I’m actually embarrassed to admit I voted for Tim Crookall and Kate Lord-Brennan, although my defence is they were the best of a shite pile of candidates.

    What’s your opinion?

  4. The problem really got entrenched during COVID when local authorities and DOI announced that nobody would be evicted as it was thought many tenants may have been furloughed or had their income severely impacted.

This was read by many as the OK to stop paying rent and instead blowing their money on raising a glass at Howard O’Clock.

See the parallel between HS2 and Steam Packet budget/Liverpool dock?

My friend. The more relevant parallel is surely between HS2 and the horse tram track??

  6. I often wondered if Portofino was a front for a cash cleansing operation. Whenever I’ve walked past it’s been empty..couldn’t figure out how they could keep going..

  7. For me, the bottom line is that two members of the public - of whom the Constabulary are paid to protect - were not only let down, but also ridiculed on social media. OK, an apology has been issued, but it shouldn’t have been needed in the first place.

As previous comments have said, the use of social media by such a public agency shouldn’t be accessible to any old pillock to use for their own entertainment. If these were my daughters and they were humiliated like this, I’d be down the station giving the Chief Constable a piece of my mind.

But respect to the two young ladies who called them out on their unacceptable behaviour. OK, you could argue the girls may have been naive, but that it not illegal or worthy of humiliation by PC plod. Dickhead.

  8. From what I’ve seen they were doomed to fail. The fact they only seemed to open when they felt like it - even during TT - wasn’t a good sign. Also, the fact they had to be told they couldn’t trade whilst insolvent and then told everyone as if it was a shock, sums it up.

I suspect like so many failing businesses they had ideas but insufficient business acumen to keep them going. They’ll no doubt be back with some other balf-baked venture before long. I just hope their creditors see their money.

  9. Never mind a bloody consultation, if fancy knickers wants to do something useful, her and Tim nice but dim can maybe just focus on their election promise..get the sewerage sorted. I remember being sat in QE2 School Hall and they both said it was their no.1 priority. My response to that is - UTTER BULLSHIT.

mental that someone who has resigned from the role less than a year ago has gone back to said previous role .

Would love to know what “ special deals” have gone on behind closed doors.

Knowing Tim, the promise of an even bigger brass name plate on his desk and a free bus pass.

It depends...will he be a "Yes Man" to Alf's bidding (for better or worse) or a "Yes Man" to the departmental CS?

After all, he was "told" that the buses ran on time, during his last, brief tenure.

I suspect it will be a bit of both resulting in another resignation or sacking before Christmas.

"A statement from the Department says they'll look into whether to continue scheduling tests during the Manx Grand Prix."

What about TT??? Just the Manx? Why allocate these times/spaces when these examiners know, perfectly well, that these delays may/will occur. Move the tests elsewhere or, just give the examiners the week off without pay? How deliberately disruptive can they be? They know what the story is. Shame on Tromode.

You clearly know nothing, or next to nothing. No driving tests are booked or taken during the whole of TT, not only because of road closures, but the sheer additional volume of traffic, including a fair share of utter nutters.

Some tests are booked during MGP in a genuine attempt to keep waiting times down, because it’s generally ok, with only a sprinkling of nutters on BSA Bantoms. However, these were cancelled on a contingency day. On an average year you’d still have a say c70% chance of it going ahead.

    Perfectly reasonable.

  13. At the end of the day, it just proves that the quality of their work is commensurate with their IQ.

Although it’s refreshing to know the civil servant in question doesn’t sustain themselves on “chippy tea”.

To be fair, they need to do a follow up TV series.

The producers knew exactly what they were doing, with all that cosy plinky-plonk music and all that.

Let's see the real Jurby Prison, and the Isle of Man. The gift that will keep on giving.

Well done Dan. And Bill (RIP).

Looks like Goldie is or shortly will be back in residence, so could be a golden opportunity for a follow up series to reinforce our low re-offending rates..

Has it finished? What happened to the rest of the week? It seemed to be all practices and little else. I can’t see the fans liking that.

Our guests who have been for the past couple of years have said it would be their last year. Basically, they felt it was a real disappointment, even accepting the weather wasn’t great. Next year they’ll be sticking to UK events, which come in at about 30% of what they pay for 3-4 days here.

I think its had its day, like the Southern. Time to move on.
