  1. Maybe if Hitler had been nicer he would have won the war
  2. I'm not denying accuracy. Prominence and relevance to today is another matter. History is 360 degrees, in three dimensions. The BLM propaganda machine is getting more than a healthy slice of it just now. It's starting to get too much, there is only so much of anything one can take on board, until it flip-flops.
  3. BBC Radio 4 is laying it on thick with the BLM propaganda this past few weeks. The latest is the retelling of history regarding Winston Churchill and the effects policies during the war had on lives in India. Enlightening stuff of course but I can see our WInston's statue getting tumbled into the Thames.
  4. It's an outrage. He is probably a rather decent fellow who has been misrepresented by the press and that.
  5. I wonder how folk on the Isle of Man would feel if Guernsey had lifted their restrictions (I dunno maybe they have ICBA checking). I know there were a few going pear-shaped when they mixed up non-covid free Jersey with covid free Guernsey. Anyway, we can all traipse off to UK now and come back after filling some forms and that.
  6. P'raps he would have found the BLM Isle of Man march a target rich environment? < insert photo of groups of impressionable young women obediently marching down Douglas Promenade and giving it the knee >
  7. Well, we've certainly got a serious ket and CoD problem on the Island then.
  8. Which begs the question...... ......ah forget it.
  9. Whatever the reasons there is a huge imbalance at play here. Whatever has prompted all these young women to attend the march, it is not representative of society. Maybe the young males need a re-education programme to bring them into line with their female counterparts. It's most peculiar.
  10. Thanks SMUJ and Max for your reasoned replies. It's a phenomenon that is worthy of some thought. Maybe @HeliX could offer an explanation?
  11. Yeah, yeah, but I wasn't durring any of that, it was the female aspect I was querying. You overlooked that in your largely irrelevant and woosh! reply.
  12. Apologies! I will correct (Should be Roger even!) In my defence, I got the poster's name mixed up; Roger Mexico I have for years always highly respected*, and found his posts to be factual, well researched, useful and relevant. I have to say of late they have been more flippant and even with more than a hint of sarcasm. Maybe a bit more in the style of oor Albert. *still do of course
  13. There is probably something in that Roger and the - for example - Daily Telegraph front page photos of 'fruity girls' jumping for joy as they receive their GCSE results is now cliched and perennial. But did you see the BLM march Roger? Your defence of something (I am not sure what) is admirable but hardly helpful. It is a serious question I am asking.
  14. Because you're now too slack?
  15. Just reading a Manx Radio item on race issues It's probably been discussed in this thread, but can anyone offer suggestions why the Black Lives Matter march was attended by very much mostly young women?
  16. Last one I had was a road kill - not me, car in front. I pleasantly plucked it - admittedly a long laborious job - and threw him in the oven fresh (no hanging). With simple spuds and veg it gave the household a wonderfully tasty meal. Beautiful texture, almost like beef, and rich flavour.
  17. George Ferguson made a few amusing comments hinting at this matter, on his show this morning.
  18. Wrighty, your loyalty is admirable but misplaced. But certainly in the letters to the newspapers (which is what I mentioned) there weren't an equal number, but 100% wanting borders closed, TT cancelled etc. Here's a typical example of the start if one letter, which continued in much the same vein: Here's another, 'horse has bolted' etc. Regarding the writers of history, I am sure they will not be harsh on our government, not one bit. We have a troop of spin doctors and a cabinet office to sort out that particular aspect. [ETA: and wrighty!]
  19. My favourite Jonathan Pie, starting at the appropriate bit for this thread:
  20. I don't want to sound overly churlish, but the newspapers were full of letters begging the borders be closed, the TT to be cancelled etc. But yeah, the boy done good. Sort of. Eventually. Go out and get pissed and that, and while Boris shakes hands in hospitals I'll just snuggle up to Davie in front of the cameras.
  21. He was ok. It's been a hard time for the lad and I would agree he is at the top of his game. He said we were in a fantastic position. An Island in the middle of the Irish Sea with over 20 deaths and more than 300 cases of Covid-19 tested for. Hardly 10 out of 10. I do realise it is difficult and things could have been much worse, and it has been hard work for all involved.
  22. Yes, 'slash and burn' is used in economics and was lifted from some farming process. I couldn't help look it up when Allan Bell kept using it. We have a vague thought about what the phrase must mean. Allan Bell loved it because it sounds drastic like something you really, really don't want to do. Whatever it is. Howard and his spin doctors are great value though. Occasional Latin phrases, the misplaced homily and of course the hyperbowl.
  23. Thanks for the correction. When I was forced to watch that tripe (a long story) it must have been a b&w TV
  24. Howard Quayle is on Mannin Line just now. He has used the phrase 'crash and burn' a number of times in just a few minutes. That phrase is one used very successfully by previous Chief Minister Allan Bell to get himself out of a spot, and also when he was talking bollocks. It's a good phrase, a simple one, a scary one etc, and the spin doctor who gave it to Allan Bell is obviously still has influence in the Cabinet Office. Crash and burn, yessir, crash and burn. Oh, and Brigadoon. We can't stay like Brigadoon. I'm sick of hearing it already. Someone has surely fed this one to Howard and he clearly likes it. It has a bit of a semi-intellectual touch to it because it refers to a black and white film and only intellectules like them Edited to add: Not black and white - see below
  25. The HIstory Man is/was brilliant. There was often some nice stuff expressed between the lines too.
