  1. Most of those listings are also on Island Escapes too as they are already registered tourist units (which a place has to be legally). It’s just another marketing outlet.
  2. Or perhaps they’re just looking to make it easier for people to deliberately crash into our wonderful cliffs?
  3. Nonsense the IOM is a fairly grotty sea side resort so why impose rules that don’t apply anywhere else in the UK and then wonder why we don’t have enough accommodation to meet our tourism aspirations. It’s typical of the IOM to totally strangle everything to death in government red tape then blame private enterprise for not investing or not participating in something.
  4. He sounded a very Christian individual too. Charitable and such like.
  5. The aspiration is for the IOM to have 500,000 visitors a year so how are we going to accommodate them if we don’t have more AirBnB type stuff? Most people have to camp or homestay here TT as there are no rooms. Most of the smaller hotels here are shit as well which is why they’re feeling the pinch which is exactly why a lot of people don’t come here and stay in a hotel. It’s our governments attitude to pointlessly controlling everything that is holding the whole sector back.
  6. I said that’s the only important bit. In the UK you can put your property on Airbnb or any other letting platform with absolutely zero interference from any government agency. Here it needs four separate inspections and planning changes. They wonder why the accommodation options here are so limited when it’s them who are limiting it all. Go to Wales or Scotland fir a week and there are thousands and thousands of accommodation options on Airbnb alone before you even look at hotels or guest houses.

Is the landlord still Mr Mellor? If it is I imagine he doesn’t take many prisoners on the rent.
  8. Your own house could burn down tomorrow. Nobody seems to be concerned enough about that to send 4 separate inspectors round and count how many spoons you have next to your smoke detector. Nobody is completing about fire regs but the rest is totally pointless annoyance to just keep people in jobs pretending they’re achieving something when actually they’re holding the whole sector back. The IOM could solve its entire accomodation beds problem overnight and be able to at least have a chance of meeting demand from 500.000 tourists if it just did nothing and allowed people to put their rooms and houses on Airbnb like pretty much all of the rest of the world and stopped being such dicks about caravans and motorhomes.
  9. The biggest barrier to tourism here is exactly that. IOM government hates people who want to let out rooms on places like AirBnB and makes it so difficult to do so, it also hates anyone who owns a caravan and now anyone who owns a motorhome. Then bizarrely they wonder why so few people now come here? Maybe if they didn’t stop or ban anyone from doing any of the above things that you can easily do without any hassle in the UK the issue would simply fix itself?
  10. Looking forward to the Phantoms perspective on this.
  11. You’d think they could make a statement. It’s been 6 months now since the claims were made so even a “We’ve investigated and found nothing” would be expected in this sort of period of time.

The punishment is vindictive. The fine was bad enough but to totally destroy the SD card (which i presume had evidence on it as to where he actually was in relation to the course) just smacks of being totally vindictive assholes.
  13. This thread is brilliant. Whats the betting that the main knob who keeps on attacking anything said about DBC on here actually works for the corpy? They sound like the sort of angry jumped up tit who probably does work in the public sector. Plus theres at least one councillor at hand to monitor everything. I think that Wheeler bloke is brilliant. More people should be prepared to stand up to silly local authority dickheads like that. I also hope the papers manage to get a statement out of DBC as to whether and changes were backdated at a meeting as Wheeler implies. If they haven't got one yet they should keep pushing as im sure there is enough interest amongst the ratepayers to find out.
