The whole point about the UA was that it got a commitment to a certain no. of RoPax and fastcraft services throughout the year traded off against linkspan exclusivity. Or is your view that SP also has to keep up its commitments and the current service levels as well? The current 'competition' makes Mezeron a few quid, will do nothing for Islanders in terms of freight savings being passed on in lower prices and will likely cause reduced sailings to UA minimum, job losses and reduction/removal of special offers, laeving fares at UA 'standard' rates.

Let's not forget Mezeron is not a like-for-like competitor. It's simply creamed off / challenged the best part of the IoMSPCo business (containerised freight) with none of the other commitments to non-freight that the User Agreement entails (or indeed the linkspan usage charges of the UA). Outcomes: either UA agreement re-written / increased pier charges for LO-LO charged by IoM Govt and/or services cut to UA minimum with attendant local job losses; lose a fastcraft over the summer.

Probably because if not Barclays would have gone straight to court and it would have dragged on for yours at enourmous cost to the Tax payer & MEA customers. Secondly what would it have done for the the Governments & The Islands reputation and ability to borrow if it had defaulted for whatever reason In one.
