The cover supervisor role can also be used an introduction to teaching. Some cover supervisors get more hands on than others dependent on their subject background or knowledge of certain types of cohort. It can be 'teaching without the paperwork' which might suit some people who have other part time jobs or extensive interests outside of education or a young family. Over the last few years the strain on cover supervisors has been be quite severe due to staff absence due to COVID, illness and stress, not to mention ASOS capping the amount of lessons teachers can teach. A growing number of staff get cover supervisor tagged on their job description due to the excessive amount of staff absence in the last few years. Without cover supervisors many high schools wouldn't be unable to function. Those with a permanent contract at one school will have an extensive level of knowledge of all the students in the school. This has been vital in the last few years.

Well done her. One thing I've noticed though is that we are a bit desparate to see someone from over here go 'big' or similar. We don't need to do that. It's like some sort insecurity based bragging. We're a small place so aren't going to produce many world champions etc. Who cares if we do or don't. England produces lots of big time Charlies from their 55 million population because they are obsessed with winning at all costs. England is a mess and is only going to get worse.

The problem is they outsource lots of the customer service to people who don't understand the IOM because they are in a call centre somewhere. The personal touch goes a long way. All this rebranding doesn't work, people know a good company when they see one. I feel for those good, honest workers stuck in a company like IOME whilst the management make poor decisions which the workers on the shop floor have to explain to customers and take the flack.

Exactly right. Identify the culprits, punish them with suspensions, detentions, education about vaping etc Those who continue to offend have a problem with addiction or mental health so therefore need proper help. The majority shouldn't punished for the conduct of the minority.

After school detentions, suspensions. For some students that would be enough, for some it doesn't touch the sides. It depends on how damaged they are their personal circumstances. There needs to be centre for each region of the IOM. Some schools are using other government buildings in their area for this, but sometimes they only have staff to cover 1 facility, when two is required.

The bullies are general damaged people who have been bullied themselves. My children have been victims of bullying and I hold no resentment to the bullies. If you look into their background and history they have been part of some very dysfunctional family situations (usually their father is in England or worse) and they are majorly traumatised. They need proper help before they can function in a mainstream school or society in general, but are dropped into our state school system where they cause lots of issues.

I had a minor issue and in the flavour of the day I hit the kid back, he lost a couple of teeth and that was that. I was an IOM junior sportsman in various sports so in rugby particularly my prowess for tackling hard meant I didn't get too much stick. Despite this it has to be accepted that some children are that physically strong and aren't violent. Do we allow they to be bullied physically or turn them violent? A culture of physical aggression and violence just isn't intelligent or what should be developed. I get it, but it just has to stop. Blows to the head especially can cause long term damage.

Definitely all the evidence is there now and there are a group of kids who lure other ones to a location, film the fight and then put it online. It's a whole new ballgame which nobody is ready to address and solve.

Apologies for not replying, one of my children has been the victim of some continued issues and I've been spending time with them as well as sending emails with regards to the issue. Schools have varying approaches from a complete clampdown on all behaviours to a more restorative approach involving conversations about the incidents and an informal plan going forward. As usual a mixture of both with some hard non negotiatables would be the best approach along with a nuanced approach looking at individual students. Putting on draconian measure for all students when 10% are causing the issue seems unfair. What it needs is this issue taking seriously and the appropriate staffing numbers/faciliites and training put in place. Telling the children to fight back is just encouraging a culture of violence and not all children like to be violent and nor should they be. Physical assault results in trauma and this can't be allowed to happen to our children.

There is a duty of care that schools legally have to keep to. Physical assault breaks that, they are children.

So we just let children be phyiscially assaulted in school then. There was this talk of putting extra money into education for learning and wellbeing to try to compensate for the damage due to COVID. That's not happened! They can find 100k a year for a head of AI though!

Unfortunately not all children are wired for violence...and nor should they be.
